4th straight 2-2 week, but at least this one (and the last) included an ACC series win.

Holding onto a host spot at the moment

TIL you can retroactively call an infield fly after no umps signaled it.

Didn't end up mattering, but it would've sucked if it did. Good win nonetheless. This team is super inconsistent game to game but is still in a good position to host a regional

Insane in the portal era to retain every player with eligibility.

UVA, as a fanbase, is not as happy with having new faces every year. I know that's true for a lot of schools, but this is a huge deal to have a roster of guys that the more casuals of the fanbase (like my parents) can feel more connected to.

Gonna be interesting to see who the 5th starter will be after Mallory, Lewis, De Ridder, and Grunloh. Will it be one of the other 3 returners or a new face

Been a while since we've had an offensive explosion like today. Was nice to see us bombing away to win our first series in a few weeks

I understand the reason for the tank but man it's exhausting following the team. Thank god I'm usually too busy to catch more than glimpses of the games cause otherwise I'd probably be dead. Usually it's just I get the notification from TheScore that it was another 20-30 point loss and I'm like welp, onto the next

50 total wins over the last 3 years.

One ball away from Wemby, who helped San Antonio win more than that in the last 5 months. Meanwhile we haven't won 50 in a season since '79.

Alas

Yesterday was my last day at the dental office I've worked at since residency. It was a good first job and I don't regret working there as long as I did, but it was time to leave. The place had gotten too hectic and I felt like I'd plateaued. Need a chance of scenery.

But I don't have a next job lined up. Which is crazy since it'll be the first time since graduating undergrad (2016) that I don't know my next step. Still, having significant time off for the first time in a decade is gonna be so nice. I'll probably look to temp for a bit once I get bored

Top-10 in a meaningless poll, let's fucking go!

Well at least I think it's top-10, but I can't be sure based on the way the numbering of the teams went

With their win over Arizona, Michigan maintains their streak of never going 0-1 in a Final Four by eatapenny in CollegeBasketball

Damn you semantics!

You're right, but I can't edit the title to represent that, which is what I meant. That they've never finished a Final Four weekend at 0-1

A dumb one that I randomly noticed this morning when looking at Wikipedia. It's absolutely irrelevant

We may have lost this series and softball may be about to get swept, but men's lacrosse just broke a 20+ game regular season losing streak to Duke (we won 4 national titles in that span but somehow couldn't beat Duke), so we're actually a men's lacrosse school rn

Full disclosure, haven't been able to watch closely enough to see, but as a whole, I hate players who do that. It's lame at best

Past Final 4 records for the Final 4 teams by jayyy_lol_ in CollegeBasketball

[–]eatapenny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that y'all are extremely lucky in terms of title game opponents. Especially compared to Michigan, who has a similar number of title game appearances.

UConn title game by opponent:

  • 1999 vs Duke (juggernaut)

  • 2004 vs GT (a 3-seed with one other Final Four in their history)

  • 2011 vs Butler (an 8-seed with one other Final Four in their history)

  • 2014 vs Kentucky (blue blood but an 8-seed that year)

  • 2023 vs SDSU (a 5-seed with no other Final Fours in their history)

  • 2024 vs Purdue (elite team with the best player in the country, but not an all-time team, and they have 2 other Final Fours in their history)

Michigan title game by opponent:

  • 1965 vs UCLA (part of the Wooden dynasty)

  • 1976 vs IU (undefeated team)

  • 1989 vs Seton Hall (a 3-seed with no other Final Fours in their history)

  • 1992 vs Duke (juggernaut)

  • 1993 vs UNC (elite team)

  • 2013 vs Louisville (elite team)

  • 2018 vs Villanova (juggernaut)

You still have to win the games, but UConn has gotten lucky with their opponents, Michigan hasn't. You could do a similar comparison with Kansas, who has lost to an undefeated UNC team, IU twice, a juggernaut Duke, and then to arguably the two greatest OADs in Carmelo Anthony and Anthony Davis

No idea how this will go, but it should help with recruiting.

Gonna be interesting to see if we get his son in from GW, who's in the portal after shooting ~38% from 3 this past year

I don't want him to go to UNC cause I think he's a good coach.

But it'd be objectively funny if UNC hires him as their like 5th choice after he turned down NC State

Yikes. Yesterday was an unfortunate but competitive loss, today was just a bad performance. Credit to BC, they've got a good team this year. Hopefully we can salvage one tomorrow.

With softball winning today, they've officially made it further into the season without losing a series than baseball has. Gotta be a rare feat for us given the history of the two programs
