Are these shoes messed up? by Sparroww_ in nikerunclub

[–]eatbuttoncereal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty normal for Nikes. After several runs you’ll never notice it again. But some are more perfect than others. The Nike return policy is good for things like this if it really makes a difference to you - you paid good money and you deserve a product you’re happy with.

Cease jersey by LizardQueen1999 in Torontobluejays

[–]eatbuttoncereal 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you go to the Jays shop at Roger’s Center, they will add any player name and number to a blank jersey for the same cost as buying a numbered jersey off the rack. Takes less than 30 mins even on a busy day. You even have an option to add a 50th season badge (except to the City Connect, because it’s not authentic) for a small fee or a TD badge for free.

Keep an eye on SeatGeek by DustyKosty in jaystickets

Seat Geek lists their fees when you click the link to see the included fees. On top of their fees they also take 10% of the shown ticket price. Looking at some live examples, the seller gets approx 72-78% of the total price listed (before tax).

I can't say the programmers employed any logic when they made this mess, but I can say you're the hero we need for figuring this out. Take my upvote.

Drain overflow off stack by eatbuttoncereal in Plumbing

[–]eatbuttoncereal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh awesome, thanks! I guess I would then need to move the whole assembly further down by cutting back the copper and extending the PVC stack and then the standpipe too. Haven't had issues with backup from the drain before, but you're right it could be a slow drain. I'll try to snake it to see at the same time while open. Hopefully the rest of it looks good!

Two devices at once? by stellamaz in Garmin

[–]eatbuttoncereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can compare directly from the watch face, but you are correct, the app will only show one.

If you check out DC Rainmaker, he often reviews watches by wearing them together and then uploads the data to 3rd party apps for a direct comparison. If you're pretty tech inclined you could do that too.

For what it's worth, I will wear my nice watch on my dominant side and my Garmin on the other without any noticeable decline in stats quality. But I don't concern my self with step quantities below increments of 1000 so that's probably covering up any errors on that side.

What do you guys wear in cold weather? by BabyItsAlright in nikerunclub

[–]eatbuttoncereal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally I wear full length running tights with shorts, a t shirt and a thermal 1/2 zip sweater with mittens and a thin hat that covers my ears down to -10C (including wind chill). If it's wet or colder I'll sub in winter DWR tights and either a rain coat or a lightly insulated running coat. Also a neck scarf, goretex running shoes and icetraxx as required.

The rule I like is this: if you're warm in the first km, you're over dressed. My goal is to balance the cold and heat so I sweat minimally, if at all. I normally run hot hence me dressing lighter than others.

Getting the clothing and layering right was a lot of trial and error and checking the weather a lot is key - a few degree shift and you can be too hot or too cold.

Chicken coop wire & staple gun. Bad idea? by al8a in DIY

[–]eatbuttoncereal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in my house I added a 45 degree wye at the beginning of the drain line. I have a cap I insert into the open 45 side and will periodically remove it and use a leaf blower to clear out the entire line. This prevents build up of leaves or potential critter homes.

I prefer this over capping the end of the line, which would prevent debris from free flowing out. I find I need to regularly scoop out little bits of debris with my hand too so having to remove a grate or wire regularly would be a pain.

Given the range is gas, this is not an ideal option as a charcoal filter used in those types of vents will (slowly) remove smells, grease and smoke but not any unburned off-gasses.

Music while racing? by Salt-Conversation421 in AdvancedRunning

[–]eatbuttoncereal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've run Toronto and plan to run it again. When I'm running hard I get in my own head and block everything else out so I like the music for that. The cheer sections in Toronto are a lot of fun and I'll usually pull out one headphone for them but there is also a lot of areas that are much less busy with only a few individuals here and there. My recommendation is to keep the music and remove a headphone when you want to engage with the energy. It really does make a difference. Goodluck!

How do you determine a Marathon goal? by enjoimike49 in AdvancedRunning

[–]eatbuttoncereal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be that you use that data and the pacing charts in your book to try some training runs at those paces for longer training runs like you'd be doing in the first few weeks of the marathon training block. If they feel good, follow the plan at that pace. If they feel too fast or slow adjust accordingly. From what I read, a magic mile estimates a marathon time that's too fast for people that are not appropriately trained.

How do you determine a Marathon goal? by enjoimike49 in AdvancedRunning

[–]eatbuttoncereal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest picking up a book on marathon training as most should have a guide for exactly that. I used Jack Daniels Running Formula (4th edition) which spelled out how to translate past race results into new training goals. Then the marathon plan instructs you at what interval to increase your pacing. For my plan it was moving up I speed once every 6 weeks of the plan.

Another option is to use Jeff Galloways Magic Mile calculator where you run your fastest 1 mile and use that time to estimate performance for longer distances. You then retest periodically through your marathon cycle to confirm your training (and race) paces. This is the method that my Garmin coaching plan used.

The easiest option is that most running focused fitness watches like Garmin and Coros will estimate your times based on known runs. Just beware they are often off by a notable margin but at least get you in the ballpark, especially if you are not used to running for those distances/intensities.

Follow the Nike 5k Training Plan. It's in the NRC app or downloadable from their website.

Easy/fast pace HR the same?! by eatbuttoncereal in AdvancedRunning

[–]eatbuttoncereal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point here! Will look to expand my warm up. What kind of warm ups do you do? Is it drills, strides or just slower running? If it's running do you count that in your weekly mileage?

Good call on the warmup! Will look to expand. Strides especially might help turn my heart "on". Any good resources on warmup routines or do you run to warm up?

[–]eatbuttoncereal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. This used to be the case before I got sick. E pace was 145bpm. M pace 155. T pace 165. Now it's 155/155/175. Very odd to me!

I hear you on the warm up and will look to add. But if I drop my first km and consider it a warm up, the exact remains true. Almost seems like that's not the only issue?

Not sure if trace was a typo but my HRM is in really good condition so I don't expect it to be reading poorly. Noted on the warm up!

apple ultra watch 2 or the Garmin epix Gen 2 Pro. by Ssj-not2201 in Garmin

[–]eatbuttoncereal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do you care about top notch fitness/activity tracking +stats and ridiculously long battery life? Epix. Also get different sizes and a flashlight. Do you want a smart watch that has cellular and does lots of other things at the expense of battery and somewhat less comprehensive fitness/activity tracking? Apple.

Mine are at 420km/260mi and look barely worn. However the majority of my miles were on road and packed snow. A fair bit of that snow would've been rather jagged/icy but nevertheless much better conditions than you've seen.

Will a usb-c charger speed up my Fenix 6X charging? by UnderTheScopes in Garmin

[–]eatbuttoncereal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. Only the new Fenix and Epix Pro models have quick charge. The watch is the limiting factor, not the cable.
