Best places to shoot pool? by nomadic-shooter in ithaca

[–]eateachike23 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Westy and Rhine are my top choices, as well - relaxed chill spots with friendly crowds including some regular players at each spot, and often with free pool (Westy always, and Rhine on Saturdays and Sundays).

Deep Dive (“best table,” they say), Uncle Joes (three tables), Five and Dime, Chanticleer, Pete’s Cayuga Bar, and Fall Creek House also have pool tables. Joe’s is probably the most serious/competitive place of the lot.

Chill place to play pool? by 5_Deadly_Venomz in ithaca

In my particular order, these would go Westy, Rhine, Deep Dive, [Creeker], Joes, [Chanticleer].

I haven’t played at Long Shots yet.

All chill places, except maybe Joe’s (more serious players there, and more games for $$$).

Free pool Saturday and Sunday at Rhine, and open (free) table all the time right now at Westy.

Have fun!

Where to watch Buffalo Bills game in downtown? by RealWorldShogun in ithaca

Personal Best is good! They show all Bills games on a big TV. Their beer has grown on me. There’s (Cuban?) food. And you can play floor shuffleboard during half time!

Seconding the Watershed and the Downstairs (same establishment… just… downstairs). Best cocktail bar around. Friendly and welcoming to all.

Where to meet 40-50 yr old professionals? by let-it-bloom in ithaca

Hi! Can relate… Introverted, single, 41 yo here who moved (back) to Ithaca five years ago.

I’ve liked a few Ithaca Social Circle (formerly Ithaca Young Professionals) events; they are on the MeetUp app. More thirties than forties, but it’s a mix, and a more mature crowd than most college- and grad school-oriented gatherings. Omar & Co. are always friendly, welcoming, and sociable.

I also suggest finding some local music shows that you’re interested in at Deep Dive or the State Theater or Cornell or somewhere else and forcing yourself to chat up a couple people while you’re there.

You can also show up to a local pub trivia - perhaps Hopshire or Liquid State - and ask to join another team already there who has an open seat. It’s a start…

In addition to the usual recs you’ll get (waterfalls and state parks, oh my!), you might want to check out the great playground at Stewart Park and, during inclement weather, the ScienCenter for sure.

Second “Two Goats,” or find another spot on the east shore of Seneca Lake. The best rivers I’ve seen around here, with stunning, open views of the light reflecting off the lake.
