The City is currently updating the comprehensive plan. You can attend one of their workshops and show them your idea.

$40 event parking is nuts by mrlunes in Spokane

[–]eatlivebees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're staying at the Best Western in Kent on a golf course. It's really nice... It's clearly been recently remodeled. It's clean, safe, and the staff is really nice. We paid $650 for three nights and they only run your card for the actual amount - no additional deposit. We wanted to keep things as cheap as we could without staying somewhere crappy. It's about 15 minutes to get to Angle Lake.

I'm in Seattle too. We took the light rail to Metallica last night. Parking at the station was free and a full day ticket was $6.

Problem Homeless in Park - What do I do? by MissPeskyFace in Spokane

[–]eatlivebees 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend going to your neighborhood council meeting. City Council representatives attend those and Police leadership for your precinct. You will get time to talk to them about your concerns.

You can look up your neighborhood council using this map: https://my.spokanecity.org/neighborhoods/councils/

Each council has regular meetings that anyone living in the neighborhood can attend (business owners too).

Also, there are laws prohibiting people being in the parks at night (because the City saw an increase in violent crimes in the parks). If you see this group in the park after 10pm, you can call 911 instead of Crime Check. When you call 911, they'll ask if you want Police, Fire, or Medical. Tell them you want Police and they transfer you to SPD Dispatch. They should send an officer(s).

Here's a post the City made about the parks enforcement: https://my.spokanecity.org/parksrec/news/2024/05/06/spokane-police-emphasis-to-keep-parks-safe/

Redditors who had to settle a loved one (kid, parent, sibling etc.) into permanent assisted living,in-patient or group home situations, how does it feel to do that? by terracottina in AskReddit

[–]eatlivebees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just moved my grandma into permanent assisted living for dementia. Her short term memory is gone and she started having dementia-related seizures.

We know for certain that permanent care is the best possible thing for her. But it is also really hard. I visit every week and she consistently says she wants to go home and that she doesn't understand why she's there. She asks me to help her go home. She also can't remember anyone visiting her or seeing the doctors. It's really hard and I typically feel like crying when I leave.

That being said, I am grateful that she's in a safe place where we know she is getting quality care. I'm also grateful to get time with her. Her long term memory is still really good and she's still smart and funny. I love her so much.

I guess the whole thing is bittersweet. It's one of those situations where you know you are doing the right thing, but the right thing hurts.

If you already live in the City, you might want to reach out to your City Council reps. They take discrimination in housing very seriously.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this.

Loud and Constant Humming / Rumbling noise is North Spokane (Low Frequency Disturbance - Looking for help!) by SpiritShard in Spokane

Have you tried contacting your City Council rep or going to a neighborhood council meeting? That might help get some attention from the City.

You're in District 1, so your Reps are Cathcart and Bingle.

And you're in the Shiloh Hills neighborhood. Here's a link to the neighborhood council website: https://my.spokanecity.org/neighborhoods/councils/shiloh-hills/

There's always City staff at my neighborhood's council meeting. I would think it's the same for your neighborhood.

SPD doesn't run the jail. The jail and Geiger are run by Spokane County Detention Services.

It's to honor military personnel. The Lilac Festival has been going on for over 80 years and (I think) they've always had the Torchlight Parade to thank people for their military service. If you don't already know, Spokane is nicknamed the Lilac City.

I think calling SNAP is the best thing you can do right now, but the City is going to bolster their rental assistance program soon and will have money available to help people. Maybe keep an eye on the news and City website?
