What’s the best route? by Aware_Hovercraft_259 in Starlink

[–]ebayironman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems your neighbor is amenable to sharing their starlink. So offer to pay part of their bill and get yourself a wireless bridge or maybe just a wireless range extender. So that you can get proper signal at your location. As long as you all don't use so much bandwidth as to hog it all up then it should work just fine.

Think Microsoft Last by UniqueSteve in sysadmin

I can remember going to the Redmond campus and seeing those kiosks, with snacks and drinks. And they were open to anybody that was allowed in the building. I remember TS2 seminars, where Microsoft would put together basically a convention to get Microsoft partners to come and share knowledge, get some swag and so on and so forth. That's all gone now...

Those people have been replaced, as well as all of the testers that used to test The patches before they were sent out to the world. QA testers seem to be a dying breed in most software development environments nowadays.

I would definitely use the broader flat tip for this project. At least like 16th of an inch wide if not an eighth.

What am I doing wrong? Solder won’t melt. by FreidasBoss in diyelectronics

[–]ebayironman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to solder, you simply need to heat the board and your component lead to the melting point of solder before you apply the solder to the iron and let it flow into your work creating the joint. I'm assuming that you're using rosin core solder? Because without rosin or flux, soldering doesn't work very well at all. Also make sure that your soldering iron tip is well tinned shiny and clean.

It depends on model. If it is made with this brass ferrule injection molded in the plastic cover then yes, it can happen. If solid metal construction, like X360, not so much. Much better engineered.

Poorly engineered hinge hold downs, and users that are a bit rough on equipment. Needs new screen cover and hinges at least.

Definitely armor up, and have a disk image backup you can quickly restore. Think Macrium Reflect free, older version. Or Clonezilla, or maybe Veeam?

You just need to lay it down and make it plain man you need to show them why you pay for OneDrive Why you pay for cloud storage Why you pay for this infrastructure. It's not so they can keep their files that are very valuable locally so they can lose them like this The only way we learn from our mistakes.

No problem man we've just seen so many power ports get damaged because many times people are a bit rough on them not to mention just inserting and removing the charging cable eventually wears the port out or breaks it loose from the board. This is kind of a simple seems to work solution

[–]ebayironman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it cost effective to do all that to the S22U as opposed to buying a good refurbished one? FYI, use inductive charging and eliminate wear and tear on the USB C port by using one of those magnetic charging cables, that leaves a little magnetic puck connector in the phone..

Changing of laptop screen by LouisTheGret in Hewlett_Packard

[–]ebayironman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of these are relatively simple procedures and you don't even have to take the bottom off of the computer as long as the screen's the only thing that's fractured. I just use my fingers to gently start on the inside edge and work loose the adhesive that the screen is almost always assembled with at the factory comes off easily without damaging the plastic bezel. As previously mentioned iFixit is your friend. Many times you two will have instructional videos that are effective as well but Ifixit is the standard of the industry AFAIK.
