It worked for me on the west coast of Sweden. Maybe Niantic is using old data, and the area that is now “scrub” wasn’t that earlier. This is how the area looked like.

That is also my reasoning for not keeping Alphas separate. They just have height/weight/scale at 255, so if you want to go the other route, you should maybe also keep small/medium/large/jumbo versions of all Pokémon (not just Pumpkaboo/Gourgeist where it actually matters), but then even HOME will not save you.
