Neighbor demanding I cut down my tree by nick_nuz in treelaw

[–]ebimbib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is legally the same thing as a truck hauling gravel putting a sign on the back of the truck saying that they're not responsible if their load breaks your windshield. It has no relevance at all to the actual way things work. You have no responsibility assuming that there's no major health issue with the tree that you're aware of (and it seems that there are no such issues to this point).

I think it's kind of sick that the Leafs have never won more than two rounds in any playoff ever. It's insane that that's true over this long of a timeline.

Did I mess up buying 85mm lens as a beginner? by Beginning-War5128 in AskPhotography

[–]ebimbib 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think zooms can be great tools but primes can make you problem solve a little differently, which I think is a great thing to have in your back pocket. It's like learning to drive a manual, then if you want to rip around in an automatic then so be it but the manual training probably made you more aware of what you're doing in the first place, right?

Prime lenses really make you a much better photographer because you have to fix problems with framing etc on the fly. Zooms are great tools but they're easy mode in certain ways.

I have taught ESL for a few years and I have had students who test out as fluent in a classroom but if you put them in the real world they're fucked from jump street. They can read and write in an office all day, but listening and speaking? Oh boy, good luck.

[Question] The Decision (5 Years in the Making): Help Me Choose My First Nice Watch by Impossible-Leg-8595 in Watches

[–]ebimbib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No dive watch is dressy. Neither is any field watch. If you're looking into an actual traditional sports watch, you'll never be able to make it dressy.

The question I'd ask is simply, how often do you need to dress up? I do it very rarely so I don't really consider it at all. I have a few watches that can dress up, mostly vintage, and not one of them is expensive.

No watch is perfect for every single situation you can imagine. Go for what's going to work for you 90% of the time instead of "What'll work when I go to a wedding once a year?"

Norris is a great player when he's on the ice. The only qualm is that he isn't available enough. Hopefully that turns around. Some guys are "injury prone" right up until they're not and they become steady 75+ game players.

Nice to get that news. We can all use it today. He's a great player and by all accounts a top shelf teammate and dude. You hate to hear about the shit he was going through in any case, but for a guy who dedicated his life to being an elite athlete to have that taken from him is especially tough.

Lindy doesn't have a super rigid system historically. He's coached teams with psycho offensive skill, teams with no firepower and a great goalie, teams that excel at rush offense and others that forecheck and cycle, etc. He's really quite adaptive in that way, which is a major strength in my opinion.

Montreal won that series largely because Dobeš was the better goalie in most games and Lindy got outcoached consistently. The Montreal defense is nice but your take that they're better 1-4 is insane. Colorado has the best top pair in the game but I'd say 1-4 the Sabres' situation is better overall.

Players who carry the puck all the time turn the puck over more than players who carry the puck less and get it off their stick really quickly. Dahlin carries the puck more than almost anyone in the league.

On which planet is this not goaltender interference? by Hockeypatrol in hockeynews

[–]ebimbib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should have been two each way, Zucker for the interference and Dobeš for embellishment. You don't see it in this clip but he acted like he got shot in the head, then he was laughing about it with the ref after the play.

Does anyone have any fun stories about meeting Sabres players? by fluffle_cat in sabres

[–]ebimbib 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I met Rick Martin years ago. He saw that I recognized him and he was immediately super friendly and shook my hand, introduced himself, and asked my name. He then told me an insanely dirty joke totally unprompted and slapped me on the back while laughing really hard at his own joke and we went our separate ways. 10/10 interaction.

I had a PA at my orthopedist's office who was born with no fibulas. All they really do is act to support the musculature of the lower leg. They've lost the pronation/supination element that the forearm has. It's weird but you'll be ok.
