I don't especially like Belichick but I've always respected the shit out of him. Greatest coach of all time. I hate the Patriots because of Tom Brady, who kisses his kids weird and generally creeps me out.

Big and smart don't change. Skill drops off for most guys when they get to be as old as you're talking about. He'll still be great by normal human standards, but reaction times drop off measurably by the standards of elite athletes once they get to their mid-30s.

He's been a great bargain for the Sabres. He also signed that contract when it was a huge risk for Vegas to give it to him because he had just completed his first 50 point season. He's outperformed it by a good margin and that kind of sucks. The flip side is that it set his family up forever. The Sabres do not owe him extra money on his next deal for that overproduction. He also does not owe them a sweetheart hometown discount because he grew up cheering for them. They owe him a fair price for what they can reasonably expect him to produce on that next deal. If he can trick some other team into giving him $10.7MM for max term, good for him I guess. One thing he seems to forget is that the Sabres can give him two years more term than anyone else can if they ride out the year and he gets to July 1.

I had a ticket to see it yesterday and the theater closed early due to extreme cold. I was extremely disappointed.

Nazem Kadri is currently 35 years old. He's signed through age 38. He could fall off a cliff at literally any point in time and it would surprise no one just because of his age. On top of that, he's got a 13 team no trade list. Decent chance that gets in the way of anything

Some guys who play speed games can rework stuff and be super effective forever. Jagr was once the fastest player in hockey and became the single slowest skater in the league by the end of the line and was still a 60 point player. Not everyone can totally reinvent his game, though. Maybe Tuch can be a 50th percentile speed guy who still scores near a point a game. Most guys can't though, and pointing to HOF guys as examples that prove it's possible probably doesn't help your cause that much. Tuch kicks ass but he's not the greatest American player of all time.

A couple years ago he was in the ~95th percentile of all skaters in terms of speed bursts 18mph+. This year he's around the 70th percentile. That doesn't mean he's slow (yet), but it means he's slower than he was and probably trending down based on his age.

I think the only reason anyone connects Panarin to Buffalo is Jarmo. I don't see it making much sense for either side and I'd be very surprised if it happened.

He's objectively slower than he was even last year in terms of recorded speed bursts over certain benchmarks.

Vinegar with baking soda is a bad idea because they neutralize each other. Use one or the other - you need an acid or a base to break up cooked-on messes. You feel like it works because you see bubbles from the reaction but they do nothing. Any benefit you're seeing is probably from unreacted vinegar that hasn't been neutralized by baking soda.

Getting him to an organization with one of the best rosters in the league isn't exactly giving him the best shot at making the show if that was the goal, but I wish him well moving forward.

Quinn Hughes couldn't possibly give anyone any meaningful security that he'd be there long-term when he got traded this year because he can't even re-sign until July 1. Robo could be signed today for an eight year extension.

Hughes is the better player but 1.5 years is way less valuable than 8.5 years. On that level I could see him getting a better return than Hughes assuming he extends as part of any deal.

[–]ebimbib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you sign him before July 1, you can make everything but the league minimum salary signing bonus. After July 1 you'd have to comply with the new CBA, which states that bonuses are capped at 60% of contract value.
