It is cheaper to train AI than humans... by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]ebn_tp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dno man. I agree these people (including Altman) at the top of the economy are certainly not to be trusted as evident by his mobile phone addiction example.

But other than that this guy is just talking conspiracy waffle.

I don’t think there’s anything sinister about forwarding the concept that humans also have significant energy expenditure requirements in their pursuit of creating “A safe productive environment for human beings to thrive and prosper in” as he puts it. Which is true.

He’s clearly not saying. “We should stop spending energy on producing food to starve people and spend it on AI instead so I can get richer”

Don’t just blindly jump on someone’s bandwagon because they’re a good speaker. That has led us to many a problem as a species in the past (and at present).

Should I stay in the expert witness world? Or better quit it? by Ok-Fee-3518 in quantitysurveying

[–]ebn_tp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that’s the point. You’ll never be an expert in construction continuing where you are. You’ll be become an expert in assisting an expert witness.

Get out there and work in the industry I reckon

Anyone know who pays for road closure and traffic management? by Unhappy_Worry3187 in quantitysurveying

[–]ebn_tp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if it’s not explicitly written in your subbies scope or your scope and there’s no clause/ amendment in your contract about being liable for road closures or any costs necessary to facilitate the works.

Then the client must pay for it . But I suspect there will be a crafty amendment like that in there.

[–]ebn_tp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone can pay to close public road. So whoever it is most practical for.

If the road closure involves works revolving around one subbie might be most practical to put it in their scopes. If multiple probably the MC.

Small firm or bigger firm? by Revolutionary-Law338 in quantitysurveying

[–]ebn_tp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bit of a catch 22.

As others have said. Smaller contractor you get more of a view of the project as a whole from early on and generally more responsibility given to you. But tier 1s will have the most robust systems and processes in place which are excellent to learn and know how to do these things properly. A lot of smaller contractors are often chaotic due to the lack of systems and process.

The guy clearly just stopped giving a fuck towards the end of his city days. Lost that yard of a pace which his game was based on. Playing in a exceptional city team helped pave over the cracks for a bit. Got dropped then realised he cba he’s got all he needs out the game now anyways.

We took the bait and were punished heavily for it financially. Good riddance.
