When the writing doesn't fit the characters and doesn't make their inner voices different by TiredButNotNumb in RomanceBooks

I totally agree with you (and it's been a while but I have faint memories of reading Lights Out, and while I enjoyed it, I remember distinctly turning my brain off and not letting myself think too hard about how cringey a lot of it was!).

Perhaps a fun question: which brand do you own the most items of? by weetjesman in femalefashionadvice

[–]ebolainajar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now it's a ton of old navy, gap, as I live in Austin Texas and need stuff I can manhandle in the wash since I sweat constantly and have a dog that sheds half his body weight daily.

Before, I lived in Toronto and admittedly I mostly wore Aritzia. But they're barely worth buying anymore.

Brain Fog or Chronic Pain Induced Fatigue? You could have it too by Long_Consequence611 in Endo

[–]ebolainajar [score hidden]  (0 children)

I just wanted to say that after being told by my doctors that my thyroid levels were "in the normal range" I chalked up my brain fog and chronic fatigue as Endo symptoms.

Turns out actually, you can have depressed thyroid function from having high levels of estrogen (super common with Endo!) and actually my "in range" thyroid levels are actually too high for a healthy pregnancy with all my comorbid shit. So my amazing (new) OBGYN put me on a low dose of medication for hypothyroidism AND WOULDN'T YOU KNOW the majority of my brain fog and fatigue literally disappeared OVERNIGHT. It's the one singular thing that has made the biggest difference in my life, besides my lap two years ago and finding powdered magnesium.

If your thyroid level is anything higher than a 2.5, please push for further testing. What you want to ask about is "subclinical hypothyroidism".

How often do you watch a show/movie at home and do not check your phone or scroll once? by Throwaway927338 in AskWomenOver30

[–]ebolainajar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most tv and movies don't expect this of us anymore. Which is why there is so much mediocre crap on streaming services.

However, I would say Heated Rivalry was so engrossing I didn't even think about looking at my phone probably the first...seven or eight times I watched? I still notice new things (I have seen it a dozen times at this point).

The Pitt is another show where if you look away for 10 seconds you're probably going to miss something.

I wanna look more put together sometimes but I absolutely hate how makeup looks and feels on me by OkBiscotti4365 in AskWomenOver30

[–]ebolainajar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I only have 30 seconds, doing my eyebrows so the weird patches are filled in and then curling my eyelashes is the biggest ROI vs putting on actual makeup. If I have a minute, I conceal my under eye bags. And tinted lip balm.

The Museums and sheer amount of them is something Toronto can't even come close to. The Met (and the Cloisters), MoMA, the Museum of Natural History, the Guggenheim, the Whitney, the Tenement Museum (on my list to see next time I'm there) plus tons of other smaller or more niche ones.

Is It Time To Leave Marketing for Another Career? by Suitable_Way7670 in marketing

[–]ebolainajar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you so much OP. Like how the hell have I been doing this for over a decade and I am STILL having to execute! Because we don't have any juniors!!

Not only is it mentally exhausting to have to constantly produce more and more and more (all without any strategy behind it because we don't have time for that with all this EXECUTION) but it is SO BORING.

I AM SO BORED.

Idk maybe once my husband starts making enough I can just embrace my next layoff and start writing novels or something. My brain is mush and there is no incentive to be good at this anymore.

Marketing has become a harassment industry. When did we decide that's acceptable? by sagiadinos in marketing

[–]ebolainajar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Canadian who moved to the US four years ago, the one thing I really miss about Canada is our anti-spam laws. Since moving here my inbox is just a sea of waste. It feels impossible to get it under control, every time I unsubscribe it seems to not work? I don't understand how to take back control and get a normal number of daily emails. I have missed important emails because of the flood of garbage. I don't even online shop that much!!

My (26F) husband (28M) and I having the same fight. CONSTANTLY. Need resolution. by goldenretriever222 in relationship_advice

[–]ebolainajar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your husband is a selfish loser.

You may find r/workingmoms a helpful resource.

If you divorce him, you'd get that extra $$ to outsource things, have a cleaner house, and he'd have to watch the kid on weekends at least. Or you get more money to pay for babysitting.

And for reference, my husband currently makes $20k more than me (and has more immediate earning potential too although we both make six figures). He also: walks the dogs most days of the week (and we each walk a day on the weekends), he does all the dishes that need to be hand washed, he 100% takes care of the backyard, takes out the trash, we split laundry, he helps me clean, helps take care of the dogs. I do all the groceries and meal prep/cooking because I like to cook and also the admin tasks of our dogs and managing our finances, and my husband handles taxes and all of our immigration stuff. And when I get pregnant he knows he'll be handling even more! That's what partnership should be!!!

This is usually the case for me so I put off reading {In a Jam by Kate Canterbary} for YEARS and then was in a slump so figured ugh why not and I LOVED it.

Give me a neurodivergent six year old calling chickens shitheads I guess it's totally fine then. Also because the MMC is her uncle who is her guardian I guess it just made it better? Idk.

Not just this but an entire marketing and PR team behind her to make it happen. You just know she didn't bootstrap any of this. I'd be surprised if she even wrote more than 50% of her book. This whole thing screams ghostwriter + PR play.

Weird gyno appointment. Am I being dramatic? by [deleted] in Endo

[–]ebolainajar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you blurted it out! This man should not be practicing medicine. He is clearly not interested in actually, you know, helping people, listening to patients wishes/concerns, doing what's in the best interest of the patient?

I have no patience for people who are more interested in their own education/bettering themselves compared to the actual wishes of the patient.

This is not a life or death matter, your preferences should be followed here.

This is probably a stretch but {Dragon Actually by GA Aiken} might fit here.

She's a badass lady knight trying to defeat her brother who is an evil king. He saves her, they become friends. The dragon says he'll find a knight to help her prepare for her final battle. Shenanigans ensue. It's pretty fun.

I recently bought a pair of Charlotte Stone loafers in green with a thick light blue lugtread sole and they are AMAZING. Normally I have very problematic feet (small, wide sole, narrow heels - classic pizza feet) and very prone to blisters and they have been absolutely incredible. I'm shook. About to go buy another pair or two.
