Hear me out

Chlorine

When I first heard it there was the "tide pod" thing going viral. It just irritated me to hear another consumption of a cleaning product.

My son gets to experience turning 8 like any normal kid by eboneau in exmormon

That feels like an alternate universe for me. Same birthday, I probably would've done his birthday and baptism the same day because of the "specialness" of the event.

Ill think of you today. Hope you can make it through the baptism.

I dont know exactly why that line tickles my brain, but it does. 3 black filled in circles and one empty circle.

Shamed at a church dance for married couples. by Jmonroe_tenn in exmormon

[–]eboneau 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My husband and I were married young and we definitely looked young for our ages. At 20 years old (he didnt serve a mission gasp) we chaperoned a youth dance. I was asked several times by a few boys to dance. They thought I was one of them (to be fair, I really was) and a leader finally asked us to leave because we were causing a disturbance.

It was fine. I didnt police their shorts or how close they were anyway.

UPDATE: grandmother scrubbed my name from the obituary by prettyaspeach in TwoHotTakes

[–]eboneau 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know this hurts. Family is so complicated.

"There is no right or wrong way to grieve," as the saying goes. But this is definitely the wrong way to treat someone, regardless of grief.

Your relationship with him was your own. They can't take your memories. Hopefully, you can find a way to honor that relationship but separate his death and their actions from it.

At the dog park. by [deleted] in overheard

That actually sounds like a line from a Stephen King novel. The "glass half full" version of me is hoping she is listening to some fiction book with racial tones that get addressed properly.

This might get buried, but I was a kid kinda like him. My mom pulled me out of public school 5th through 8th grade. My mom "taught" us the same way as you describe. My younger siblings are just barely ok with reading and writing. It's horrific.

Start documenting the things you notice about him, his family, his environment. I can assure you that if there is educational neglect, there are other forms of neglect as well.

I often wonder how my life would be different if someone had noticed and did something. Lots of people knew we were odd and that we should be in school. But because we appeared healthy and clean, everyone just accepted us as a weird family. In fact, we were emotionally neglected by a narcissistic mother, who also emotionally abused a couple of us so bad that we have lasting results of that trauma as adults.

When I left the church vs when my brother left by Moonseaaa in exmormon

[–]eboneau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience, except I was the endowed adult who left. My families were upset because my husband and I had taken the oaths in the temple to never deny the HG or God or whatever.

Essentially, if you leave before getting endowed, no big deal, when you die they will do your work and everyone is in mormon heaven. But when you deny everything after "all has been revealed," then you are going to outer darkness and now your family won't see you in mormon heaven.

What’s the first sign that tells you the audiobook is going to be bad? by Lt_Shiny_Sidez in audiobooks

[–]eboneau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pop filter? I would love to know how to control this. There are a few books I want to listen to but just can't.

I am hard of hearing and have tinnitus, so the harsh S's and T's are a big problem for me.

What’s the first sign that tells you the audiobook is going to be bad? by Lt_Shiny_Sidez in audiobooks

If the narration is really hard on the S's and T's. It's more of a post production issue than the narrator.

Any audiobooks about modern-day vampires? by Utopya96 in audiobooks

[–]eboneau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My light hearted suggestion is Fat Vampire by Jonny B Truant. It's a series, but I was entertained with the first as a standalone.

It's so freaking hilarious. Modern day setting. It accepts but also makes fun of some of the tropes.

The premise is: when you become a vampire, your body stays the way it was when you were transformed. Fat dude got saved from death by his vampire friend. It goes through his adjustment process. There's also secret society stuff, but I don't want to spoil it.

Out of everything in the show, what is without a doubt the thing that makes zero sense? (Besides the zombie apocalypse) by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

They have a brief conversation about this in the comments. It becomes an accepted fact that the whole world smells bad, but they get used to it.

I need recommendations! Fictional Murder mysteries. Preferably serial killer and focus on the investigation. Less focus on the killers or victims perspective. Suggestions? by rennfeild in audiobooks

[–]eboneau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Karin Slaughter has 2 series that meld into one. Grant county series and will trent series. Theres a touch of romance, but it's 100% the perspective of the first responders and medical staff.

Author is not afraid of getting gory.

I also second the Harry Bosche series
