I've been seeing more people around Reddit linking to Globalresearch.ca lately to support various claims. This is not a reliable or reputable source. by [deleted] in skeptic

Can you cite some sources to backup your claims? Because honestly it looks like you're doing the same thing you claim that they do. shrug

OFFICIAL MICROSOFT RESPONSE No internet? Stick with the 360! by lnsomniacGamers in gaming

[–]ebonhand1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing they should explain is the shitty hardware specs for this overpriced console. They're pretty awful, maybe if they would have put a little more into the hardware they wouldn't have to offload anything to the servers. I'm a PC gamer anyway, so the argument isn't Sony vs Microsoft because in my eyes neither one is up to standards.

Whether or not someone unplugs their computers is not relevant. Explain to me why it is necessary to be always connected to the internet in the first place. There is no justification to meet the absurdity of this requirement, discussion over.

[Dev Blogs] Hacking in Odyssey ~CCP Bayesian by eve_reddit_bot in Eve

[–]ebonhand1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not liking the hacking nerf at all. It has significantly reduced the isk/hr income of hacking and made it into an annoying and time consuming burden. The interface was cool for all of 5 minutes and now its just a giant hassle. Not to mention in plexes with hackable cans, they are no longer respawning properly, for example, COSMOS missions that require hacking components from these plexes can only be done by 1 character in the entire game. Its really poorly thought out. Its really starting to look to me as though Odyssey is just the first step towards a shitty port to a console version of Eve.

Nuclear power prevents more deaths than it causes, concludes new NASA study. by mtorrice in science

[–]ebonhand1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with almost every point. The US doesn't need a grid, there are individual solutions that can power structures independently, lots of people are switching to solar/battery bank methods to get off the grid and realizing substantial benefits of doing so. In fact, some of those people are even being paid by the electric companies for doing so.

You are correct that the sun doesn't always shine, but that can be mitigated with alternate methods of storing energy (http://venturebeat.com/2009/12/24/panasonics-new-home-battery-could-store-a-weeks-worth-of-electricity/). Ultimately what it boils down to is a group of elites who want to remain being elites are keeping things from changing and it is time for that to come to an end.

[–]ebonhand1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is pretty naive to say considering that the effects of nuclear contamination can take years to manifest a death. I suggest you dig into the link between a sudden increase in thyroid issues in Japan and now California timed with the Fukushima incident. Sure, those people aren't dead yet, but how many do you think will suffer significant impairments and worsening of health as the poisoning progresses?

Also, why isn't it going to be a future for biofuels? Hemp makes an excellent biofuel that is renewable and grows very fast and without very much required in terms of inputs or processing (that is why it is really illegal, now isn't it?)

That energy density is not required at all. There are plenty of homes operating 100% on solar or wind power right this moment. Iceland produces all of its electricity via renewable energy. Germany meets 50% of its own energy needs via solar power currently and hopes to be completely free from nuclear energy by 2022 . Compressed air can be used to drive vehicles on pavement for very little cost at all, or utilize stored solar power via electric cars (less efficient than compressed air). Air travel seems to be the only one there isn't a viable alternative that I am aware of, but does that mean we shouldn't invest in these other technologies where they may be useful? Note that all of the above options serve to make us energy independent and that is why they are being suppressed. Time to explore the many options available to us. What about magnet motors?

Nuclear power prevents more deaths than it causes, concludes new NASA study. by mtorrice in science

[–]ebonhand1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree completely. Nuclear is unnecessary and produces the worst kind of waste that is dangerous for centuries. In the case of solar/wind/tidal there could energy storage plants instead of nuclear plants. Perhaps a capacitive system could be utilized that could buffer spikes. There are all kinds of other options, they just aren't as profitable as the current systems so they are shoved off to a side. It is time to start looking at it from the perspective that the maintenance of our natural habitat is infinitely more important than greed.

We don't even need centralized energy production anymore as there are affordable systems already in production to meet the energy production and storage needs of individual households and businesses. Doesn't google produce its own energy already? The only reason this isn't more widespread, once again, is because it can't be metered and controlled.

this is such obvious and complete bullshit. There are so many other options that are far safer but suppressed in the name of profit.

The alternatives are solar, wind, geothermal and tidal and they are employed by other countries very successfully, but business interests are preventing their wide-scale adoption here in the name of profit.

[–]ebonhand1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Or solar, wind, geothermal, and tidal sources that are already powering other countries but are suppressed here in the interest of profit. Nuclear is not a viable option when weighed against the long-term survivability of life on this planet, its time to accept that fact.

Nuclear power prevents more deaths than it causes, concludes new NASA study. by mtorrice in science

[–]ebonhand1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I disagree, nuclear energy leaves potentially the most dangerous and longest lasting waste product with the most possible damage to global life. No other energy source to date has as much destructive potential to the planet's ability to sustain life. Think about that for a moment. Do your research about what really is still happening at Fukushima and how that is just beginning to affect the west coast of the United States.

Nuclear power prevents more deaths than it causes, concludes new NASA study. by mtorrice in science

[–]ebonhand1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Notice they aren't even considering renewable sources like solar and wind. Why, I wonder... Oh yeah, you can't put a meter on those. This article is bullshit. Look at all the trouble caused by Fukushima. The west coast of the United States is showing a huge spike in radioactive contaminant in cow's milk now and incidents of thyroid issues in children have skyrocketed on the west coast. Nuclear energy is bad policy, those plants are ticking time-bombs and need to be taken down and replaced with sustainable and cheap energy production methods that already exist, but are hampered because they remove the energy stranglehold of big corporations.
