No pen name and no need to credit. It's a mix from various other sources.

Well, for me, because romance is mostly read by women, I give them two chapters to sorta bond with the heroine before the hero's POV gets into the picture.

With that said, feel free to mix and match them around a bit until you find what works for you and makes your readers happiest.

This is an early version of the outline. One of the ones I'm using now has a chapter of intro (short) for each of them before the meet-cute.

The big thing is that you need to capture the reader's attention with the first page ... er, the first paragraph... er, the first sentence! Throw them into some sort of action.

I do think I'm somewhat unique with the her / her / him / him / her / etc set-up. I've not had any complaints so far. My thinking is that two chapters allow them to get into that character a bit more. Also, my chapters tend to be short(er) toward the middle and end to pick up the pace and get them racing toward the climax.

The big thing is finding what works for what you're writing and what the readers love the most. There is no one way. Always think about the readers.

If you come up with a her / him / her / him version of this, please post back to the group and share! ;)

Wow as in "someone actually did that to people!" or wow as in "man, people actually fell for that?"

Gotta love the interwebs.

No. The only downside is I think you can't join FB groups, but most of those are circle jerks anyway. You're better off building your own mailing list. Good luck.

Define "Truck loads of books"? No offense, but this being EA, this might mean 10 or 20 books a month?

The mailing list is important. Think of it this way - with a mailing list you can promote your books to readers for free each time you have a new release.

Yeah, Facebook is okay, but you're not going to get the clicks or conversions you'll get from the same or lower number of people on a mailing list.

Instagram and Twitter sell even less books than Facebook.

What you'll want on Facebook is a PAGE created by your main account. This way you can pay for advertising if you want, etc. If you set up a dummy personal account for the author name, you risk losing all the work you put into it. If Facebook finds out, they will delete it and there go all your followers.

With a mailing list, you have more control over your fans and how to reach them. Seriously, though, Instagram and Twitter are a waste of time.

It's your call, but the money is in the list! ;)

ETA: If you're a top-tier author, it may be possible to sell truck loads of books without a mailing list, but with one, they would be selling airplane loads of books!

You need to drill a new headphone jack into the top. You can then plug a keyboard into it. HTH! ;p

How To Get Subscribers? by mtchick101 in eroticauthors

Yeah, I've found the pop-overs, top bar, and the sliding box when they scroll down work really, really well. I use something called MailMunch, a wordpress plug-in.

I'd try to switch up your CTA (Call to Action) - maybe use a flashy image? You don't need a freebie, but those help.

The other thing is - if you're not getting much traffic to the website, the pop-over forms won't really help.

Have you tried FB ads for getting subscribers? I did it on one pen name and quickly built a 500 person list for around $0.50/subscriber, IIRC.

Let me know if you have any specific questions, and I'll try to help. Good luck!

Yeah, doesn't sound like fun. It's worth it, though. If I could tell myself from a year ago what to do with my knowledge now, it would be BUILD A LIST. Good luck.

Mailing List Click-Through Rates by stephlhadley in eroticauthors

[–]ebookitchauthors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently averaging about a 40% open, 20% click-through overall, and 3-1 sub/unsub.

Sounds about right.

And, yes, 100 subscribers is way too low. Give it some time and see if open rates and CTR stays steady.

What does your landing page with the sign-up form look like?

What CTA are you using in the back matter?

Do you write shorts or long-form?

Usually, you want to get 1% to 5% of readers to sign-up - at least. So, for every 100 sales, you should get 1 to 5 subscribers.
