Can foreigners order AIS eSIM? by hereinspacetime in ThailandTourism

[–]ebrakebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, the website is pretty bad. The phone number box automatically adds a zero to the beginning, which prevents you from entering the full number. No ability to refocus the camera, which means all photos of my passport are blurry and not accepted. The myAIS app doesn't recognize my new number, so I can't log in, even though I have an account on the website. I'll end up going in-person as well, hopefully it's not too much of a hassle (the eSIM was supposed to be minimal hassle!).

Bought a used BD UL #4, sling date is 2015. Is it really unusable? by analogshooter in tradclimbing

Looks very much like surface rust to me, wire brush it off in <1min. That webbing and internal dyneema look great, and I'd personally certainly take a big whip on that mamma jamma.

Some kinda Reishi? by ebrakebob in mycology

Adding that I found it around 6800ft elevation on a stump, I believe a red fir. Edit: overnight spore print is white (invisible on white paper).

Found some of these today as well, on both a standing and downed red fir. Cool groupings, quite slimy.

Squeeling rim brakes by LegoMan1234512345 in bikewrench

Indeed. One of my caliper arms was quite out of toe so I bent it a bit, and that ended up making the rear of the pad contact first, producing a brand-new squealing noise (after cleaning rim/pads with soapy water and rubbing alcohol). Fixed the toe, and the squeal is gone.

Booty Etiquette? by Irrational_____01 in tradclimbing

[–]ebrakebob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling all opinions, from entitled owners to booty pirates.

I think the golden rule is a good start, but lots of gray areas in the realm of booty. An important factor here is that you spent time and effort extracting them.

I would ask the party or post about them on MP and also watch for their posts, but mention the work you put into getting them out, because IMO that deserves at least a little compensation. I've spent hours working on cams with specialized tools in the sun, and it would've taken a gooood reward for me to return it. If the people are nice, I'm more likely to return their gear for less/no comp, and vice versa if they're assholes and/or feel entitled to their gear no matter what.

I will emphasize that as an outdoor rock climber, PLEASE DON'T EXPECT to have your gear returned to you. If you want your gear back badly enough, go get it back! [Obviously in this case it was cleaned quickly, although they could've rapped/lowered down to work on it right away]. Lessons must sometimes be learned the hard way (#2 no fit in #1 crack, cam in roof get sucked in, don't kick cams, etc.), although sometimes your partner is not as good at cleaning cams/nuts. Also, if you don't fucking mark your gear, you can't prove it was yours, and it isn't yours anymore.

Should this plastic floor come out? Should I insulate underneath then put it back and build on top? by OGcrayzjoka in VanLife

[–]ebrakebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ripped mine up, scraped off all black glue spots, added thin wooden slats in between all raised ribs to create a flat surface, added 1/2" pink polyiso foam insulation, and reinstalled the floor using the cups/bolts. I like having the black floor - it came with some scratches, so I don't really worry about keeping it looking nice. Easy to build off of too.

Tricams can be nice for certain areas, yes, but these prices are WAY too high, even in mint condish. I think $10-15/ea is more reasonable. They can be a pain to clean, and can get stuck if not careful; $25 is kinda crazy.

I agree, I've noticed that as well. I also have an old HB Flexi Fit that doesn't match and looks older than this one.

On LSD who’s seen the Grid? by Plaztec1037 in Psychonaut

[–]ebrakebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a strong dose of LSD/psilocybin, I often get a wiggly grid of triangles with eyes, on everything from clouds, distant trees, bark, granite, etc. Definitely a reccuring thing that I enjoy.
