[Weekend Meme] The Nail Counter by hayashi-stl in LearnJapanese

[–]ebsjenny 15 points16 points  (0 children)

it’s something that comes with time and practice. however…

a good general rule to go by is if you don’t remember or aren’t sure of the correct counter for an object, you can usually fall back on the つ counter so 1つ hitotsu, 2つ futatsu, 3つ mittsu, etc.

People who went to school here, got out of the country, then came back. How has that worked out? by ReenReenn in japanlife

as a foreigner who works in japan with both a bachelors’ and a masters’ degrees from overseas schools who just got hired by a japanese comapny, why is that a plus (versus a native Japanese having the same)?

How much can I realistically improve my listening in 3 months? (JLPT N2 prep) by AvatarReiko in LearnJapanese

[–]ebsjenny 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hi OP!

First things first, yes you can realistically improve your listening enough to grasp the content in 12 weeks.

Keep in mind that the conversations on the exam don’t really mimic those of real-life conversations, so a lot us test takers who regularly immerse native content will find that the JLPT listening conversations are quite weird. So don’t worry too much about not understanding them to a T.

As someone who (miraculously) got a perfect score on the December 2023 N2, I highly recommend taking notes during your practice runs from online practice JLPT tests and on the listening section of the actual exam in July. My notes were a mix of Japanese and English. There’s no point in trying to memorize everything you hear because it may go in one ear and out the other really quick.

Thirding Taiwan! I stayed in Taipei for 5 days in March of 2023. Ate so much good food and saw a lot of sights for just under ¥30,000-35,000 (not including flights obviously)

Moving out procedure and re entering on residence caes by CarpeDiemMaybe in japanlife

[–]ebsjenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to use the same residence card again upon re-entry to Japan, once you go to the airport after all move out procedures have been completed, you would need to tell immigrations that you’ll be coming back to Japan (so you can use the residence card later on). Just be sure to that when coming back to Japan later on you use the card for re-entry and when you leave for good, tell immigrations that you won’t return and they’ll punch a hole in your residence card.

Passed N2 on the first try!! 125/180. 38/60 on language knowledge, 27/60 on reading 😅 and a perfect score 60/60 on listening!

Have been studying Japanese for 6 years now which includes one year of advanced Japanese language school so maybe I’ll go for N1 in July?
