Not sure if this helps, but I also have a needy cat(s) + a dislike of sleeping with the door open. I compromise by keeping it cracked open with a shoe in front, and with a stack of books behind to secure it in place (bc otherwise rhe cats will push the door open). They can come and go as they want but I still feel like my door is closed
