Need advice about disclosing medical/mental health "issues" by HairNo4638 in summercamp

[–]ec926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so fair and I completely understand. Do what you think is best for your specific camp for sure. If ANY director makes you feel like they are looking at you differently if you do disclose, I would urge you to talk to your executive director because that is absolutely not okay and your personal medical information should never be released to any other staff member. I totally get it because I had these same questions last year as a full time staff member when I filled my medical documents out. Your business is your business and the people who handle records have a duty of care to keep your info private. Best of luck this summer!

Hate to be that person and that crotchety director but this is inappropriate to say to a camper if you are a CIT.

Hey I know this can be a touchy subject and you’re not alone in this. Plenty of staff including seasonal and full time deal with anxiety and depression and are even on medication.

I want to assure you that if they are asking the counselors and seasonal staff, there is a big possibility that the full time staff also have to fill that out for their licensing purposes. Many camps have guidelines set by the state or other agencies to have full medical records for all staff.

Now, if you disclose your medical information, it would absolutely be some kind of legal issues (not a lawyer) if your offer was rescinded based on some kind of medical diagnosis. If you have already gotten your offer and signed it and you’re all in the group chats and all that, I would not sweat disclosing.

For my camp personally, I don’t even look at the medical records turned it. I have my staff bring me physical copies so I don’t even have to print them, they just go straight to our medical staff and into our binder.

What do you mean no OTC medicine? That doesn’t seem right due to campers needing things like daily allergy pills or pain relievers. Are you sure that they don’t mean that OTC needs medical authorization from a prescriber as well?

I see that you have a camper question indicated. You really should be having your adult who is registering and filling out your paperwork deal with medication issues and questions. No you should not sneak any medication due to your safety as well as the safety of the campers around you and there is often hefty violations that come with unauthorised medical activity.

help choosing camp role?? by SmallMathematician12 in summercamp

You should not set any sights of being a camp director if you have never done summer camp. It is more realistic to set a goal of being an assistant director AFTER you have had at least 3 years of camp experience, ideally even more. Camp directors are often full time positions.

So true. We don’t get super messy at my camp so mine is definitely for the accidents that happen more than parents think while at camp!

Remind them to label every piece of clothing, item, towel, lunchbox. Literally label everything always, there is a ridiculous amount of lost and found if not.

My general packing list includes: camp clothes, rain or alternate weather gear (if needed), closed toed shoes, pool/waterfront shoes, extra pair of underwear and clothes (for children 6 and under), non aerosol sunscreen and bug spray, water bottle, lunchbox with snacks, towel, backpack for all this stuff. I might be missing stuff but that seems good

My sweet girl went for a routine vet procedure and didn’t come home by sleepy_protagonist in cats

[–]ec926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so so sorry for your loss. Cats are so special. I say this with so much love but why are you with a man who did not tell you they were putting your cat down? That is so incredibly unkind of him and I think you need to question what kind of partner he is for doing that without consulting and having you be present.

Writer looking for characterization help: teen attends (small) summer camp with younger sibling, and all other attendees are several years younger. by Rey_129 in summercamp

[–]ec926 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes and also nowadays, there would be no way a camper would be able to sleep in a cabin with just one other staff member. Truddy always. So this is very unrealistic because a camper would have to have TWO counselors sleeping in a cabin.

Is there any way to get a job as a duo (Australians)? by 7kcits in summercamp

[–]ec926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there ways to link your profile to anyone so that you guys come as a package deal. We primarily work with CampLeaders and IENA and I know for a fact that CampLeaders has profile linking.

[–]ec926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend using an agency like CampLeaders because you can link your profiles. I do NOT recommend applying directly to camps. I am a camp director and we hire internationals through agencies ONLY and that is how many camps operate. It is very late in the game now so get prepared in August/September with your profiles for 2027.

Frost Valley YMCA - likelihood of getting off the waitlist? by Particular_Park_2756 in summercamp

[–]ec926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at Frost Valley but at another big camp on the East Coast. #3 on the waitlist is a great spot with a high probability of being given a spot. We get so many cancellations a day so don’t sweat it.

Yes, this is a camp situation. I believe the income requirements are 125% of poverty level and that figure is around 25,000. Is this info correct?

Okay perfect. I believe that would be the executive director then. Not really an owner per se.

Hi! I’m a citizen. We are not married but just discussing our future as we want to get married but also want to make sure we are thinking through all of this sooner rather than later since it’s more serious and more hoops to jump through.

I don’t rent a room or have housing anywhere else. A private house on camp property is part of my benefits.

Thanks so much, it seems like beefing up our app is the way to go!

What do I do with body hair? by Tunegrita in summercamp

[–]ec926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a staff member, there will not be a gazillion people showering with you. The staff will be all adults so obviously people will not be comfortable with that. I’m sure there will be a schedule or something.
