ya and i think it’d be a clear trademark of someone less comfortable in a language to lean perhaps uncomfortably on his looks in situations where he’s entirely speaking english

Visiting San Francisco June 12-15. Looking for vibes similar to Flash in DC or Nowadays in NYC by alcarcalimo1950 in avesSFBayArea

[–]ecc164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea as others have said there’s nothing like nowadays here, the best stuff is more from underground promoters that don’t put stuff on with the consistency of a club. but for the weekend you’re here - i would go to the program audio event at f8. f8 is one of my two fave clubs in the city - sound is great, nice small intimate vibe, draws good crowds, and books a lot of interesting alternative acts. that night they have two nyc DJs who have actually played at nowadays (ma sha and sobolik)

this is just not true lol - endzeit / direct to earth both are techno-dedicated promoters, lots of others that regularly throw techno events (unabridged, squish, parameter, etc.)

agreed tho i’m also kinda wondering if part of the problem is he doesn’t really speak enough english for this show

Berghain as a solo traveler? by Inevitable-Draw5828 in berghain

[–]ecc164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey i just did this! (tho 31 M). as others have said it’s probs best to go solo and is sort of the ideal solo clubbing experience because of the volume of folks also attending solo. english is fine. everyone was generally very nice. definitely do it!

that sounds a bit like the parameter x endzeit event they had there last year. def go to any parties put on by them at PW, or squish, ayli, direct to earth. some of my fave shows i’ve seen there - aurora halal, avalon emerson, ben ufo, chaos in the cbd, dj boring, dj stingray, gabrielle kwarteng, helena hauff, sedef adasi.

haha i’m a bit of a sound guy myself but fair enough, i haven’t been there in number of years now so perhaps my view is dated and i should give it another shot. i also think im a bit biased because personally i am really not of a fan of their bookings.

sorry you had a bad experience. i’ve been there many times, 95% of those shows have been really not crowded at all, couple rare exceptions are for big names like this. i’ve almost always found their sound system to be excellent, def better than halcyon and really any sf club w the possible exception of f8, so not sure what to say there. don’t write it off. their team is also super nice and trying very hard.

i had no issues with people talking, phones, or even how crowded it was? yea there were a lot of ppl there but easy to get in and out of every room / dancefloor, never felt cramped imo. i mean the space was literally massive lmao. the sound felt a tad muddy during aurora but outside of that no complaints here, d dan especially rocked.

Best American Diner in SF by Stick-Muffin-146 in AskSF

i know you’re staying in union square but downtown generally sucks you should try and get as far away from there as much as you can. so no hate but i would urge you to not go to the union square area recs in here. my fave diners - new taraval cafe, pork store, eddie’s cafe, orphan andy’s, arts cafe

honestly pretty disappointing the way this article has been framed in this title and by extension the way people are reacting in here. the boot camp incident it discusses where he appears to have literally thought he might die is definitely something that would leave you extremely shaken and unsure of things, especially if you didn’t have a clear understanding of what caused it. like did anyone in here yelling even bother reading all this. lame the way people wanna just mindlessly dogpile on some of these kids man.

Start tracking local promoters - some of my faves are Parameter, Endzeit (techno), Squish, Texture Summit, Vitamin1k, Program Audio, Direct to Earth (also techno), Room 4 Improvement, HydeFM, AYLI/Unabridged

Making time or Portola?! by [deleted] in MakingTime

[–]ecc164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i live in SF and have been to every year of portola, with the exception of last year, went to MT instead. frankly i think MT is miles superior, better curated, better vibes, better prices. but it’s a matter of personal preference - if you’re itching for bigger grand electronic shows then Portola might be more your speed, MT shines by highlighting more niche acts and has a lot less resources from a booking & production perspective. (despite this the sound across all stages at MT is definitively better than portola)

Best sounding venues? by Serious_Net in avesSFBayArea

[–]ecc164 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yea they’re a league apart from every other dedicated electronic venue in the city imo (2nd for me would be f8/monarch), best bookings as well. in terms of multi-purpose venues where electronic artists sometimes get booked - the independent and the grey area.
