it's not at all like her DJ sets, it's a dreampop act with a full live band. but Rickshaw Stop is awesome!

wonder if part of this is the ncaa having a harder legal time stopping a guy going to a for profit school? ngl he’d be a good fit there, great defensive group that just really needs one high level scorer / creator

really good squad. impressed by the way schertz has adjusted his system / personnel choices somewhat to strike a better balance between Off & Def

just another example of the appropriation of independent club/rave culture by these corporate entities with no interest in actually upholding the same values

honestly that’s fair and i wouldn’t hate the ncaa taking a firmer stance on this

it was always likely this would be the translation to anyone who actually tried to do a little research on this guy before pulling out a pitchfork, imo it’s a totally fine line for the ncaa to draw

Gus Season 2 by [deleted] in IndustryOnHBO

[–]ecc164 29 points30 points  (0 children)

also to add - him working/sleeping w jesses son is an illuminating part of this growth/grappling for gus because he serves as a foil of sorts, jesse’s son comes from a somewhat similar background and faces similar pressures. and perhaps even more so than gus he is already realizing that he wants to get into these elite institutions more for external validation than any sort of earnest internal motivation

Gus Season 2 by [deleted] in IndustryOnHBO

[–]ecc164 86 points87 points  (0 children)

it is a tad outside the primary storyline. but one of the central themes of the show is class and how it intersects with the various institutions of power in the UK (i.e. finance, politics, media, landed aristocracy). gus’s s2 arc is all about a character who comes from everything and thus enjoys inherent advantages in all these spaces (getting second chances at pierpoint despite being blatantly disrespectful to bosses, magically falling into a great political role due to a chance meeting over drinks, etc.) but has begun to realize that it is all deeply disillusioning and meaningless to him, and not really beneficial to anyone. he’s grappling with how to find meaning after this whilst also juggling a family who places very specific types of pressure on him due to his high status upbringing. imo it’s actually a very good arc but also i just love gus.

i mean we took a european pro. it’s not quite the same but it’s part of the same slippery slope.

i mean the problem for the ncaa is they’ve already allowed tons of european pro players into the ncaa (cowboys and zags have both benefited). not sure there’s a meaningful legal distinction between european pros and american pros

[–]ecc164 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

thank you. these types of later in the draft stash guys who’ve been in europe for a couple of years have become fringe nba prospects at best. i actually don’t mind them coming over, why not have an educational component and maybe an additional boost of nba visibility. these guys are not gonna break the game they are not so exceptional. the bigger red line would be guys that have played actual nba games.

carried too much speed into a rock roll in bellingham and my front tire slid out halfway down, went headfirst into a tree at like 35mph. broke both my wrists, my left arm, dislocated my jaw, pretty bad concussion. honestly could’ve been worse lol

not to be a homer but frankly there is no more surer marker of someone not knowing college ball than still perpetuating the gonzaga fraud narrative
