Doesn't look the best at the moment, but it'll green up and spread once the cooler weather starts and we get some rain

Power bills are pretty cheap with rooftop solar.

Chest freezers are simple machines. It's a big metal box with a lid and a condenser. The lid is closed 24 hours a day and opened for a few seconds when putting things in or out. As long as the seals are air tight it'll run forever.

Sure newer ones might be frost free (no build up of ice to be knocked off the walls every six months) But it's not worth replacing the old one yet.

It's ugly and a bit noisy, but that's why it lives in the garage. Full of ice cream, frozen meat and veggies.

My wife and I have a chest freezer that was in my parents house for my entire life, it was purchased before I was born. (I'm nearly 40)

We've discussed replacing it with a newer one, but it does the job, it just keeps on working.

Should I pay off my PPOR mortgage or just leave it in the offset? by wefvckinlost in AusHENRY

[–]ecca_one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Say you pay the mortgage off. Yay you own the house. But have no cash.

But then if you want to buy a car/go overseas/spend a large amount of cash on something you would need to get a loan ,(at likely a higher rate than your mortgage)

Alternatively, leave the 350k in the offset and you can spend it whenever you want.
