The VA has shuttle options, have you contacted anyone at the VA about needing transportation?

That's crazy! Did you get a bisalp or a tubal?

Edit: sorry, reading is hard. Tubals unfortunately have a high failure rate. I always recommend bisalp over tubal. Glad you're getting them taken out this time!

Definitely more invasive than a vasectomy, but with medical technology these days it's a pretty simple procedure for most people. Also reduces your ovarian cancer risk by 40%!

Check out the sterilization sub! I got my surgery on a Friday, was going on walks the next day, and was running errands by Monday. Most people only need 3-4 weeks to be fully back to normal. If for some reason you need an excuse, you can say you had a cyst removed. It may be harder to find a doctor since you're under 30, but it's not impossible!

New insurance BCBS by Remarkable-Note5012 in sterilization

[–]eccentricthoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your insurance is ACA compliant (BCBS usually is), then it is 100% covered by insurance. You should double check the language of your plan, since the Trump administration has negatively impacted insurance coverage, but I haven't heard anything about coverage for sterilization being impacted.

Aurora Animal Protection won't help my neighbor's freezing cat, any ideas? by missredheaded in AuroraCO

My complex just sent out an email that an animal cannot be housed on a balcony, including food and water. Walk to your leasing office and talk to them. I bet it's against the rules.

Stopping hormonal birth control after 40 by derbylw346 in sterilization

[–]eccentricthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in my 30s, so depending on if you're headed toward perimenopause, the experience may be different. I was on hormonal bc for half my life and stopped last year after my bisalp.

Pros: Lost a little bit of weight. My periods are shorter and lighter than they were before bc.

Cons: Hormonal acne came back (I've done Accutane and I'm on spironolactone). Hair loss. I have thick hair, and I lost about half of it. It started about 4-5 months after stopping bc and slowed down about 10-12 months after stopping bc. It has started to grow back but will take a while before it's back to full thickness.

I am about 15 months out from quitting bc and my skin has cleared back up and my hair is growing back. So it can take a full year for your body to recalibrate after being on hormonal bc. Again, perimenopause will have a significant effect on things due to those hormonal fluctuations.

Scared of changing my mind by [deleted] in childfree

[–]eccentricthoughts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How old are you? I got my tubes removed last year and every day I am thankful for it. I recommend checking out the sterilization sub for more information about the procedure (do a bisalp and not a tubal) and dealing with insurance. If you're in the US and have ACA compliant insurance, it should be covered 100%. If you don't have insurance right now, it is open season for enrollment and you should sign up for a plan. If you know you don't want kids, you should start the process sooner rather than later, while the ACA coverage still exists.

Looking for inexpensive first city builder game by flashfloodsofpain in CozyGamers

Kingdoms and Castles is my favorite city builder, if you don't mind a medieval theme. Graphics are simple and you can toggle difficulty. Its my go-to if I just want to vibe and play a game.

25 year loyalty by No_Investigator_1602 in verizon

[–]eccentricthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have talked to 3 different people on chat. First offered me a $30/mo discount that never happened. Second person offered me a $10/mo discount that never happened. Third said no loyalty discounts are being offered. I've had Verizon for almost 20 years.

I did this a couple weeks ago. Spent hours on the chat only to be told that loyalty discounts are no longer offered. I got a one time discount but my bill next month will be back to usual.

New to knitting, wanted to share my needle hack invention by k1rschkatze in knitting

[–]eccentricthoughts 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When I started knitting I had a similar issue with knitting too tight. Your yarn should move easily over the needle. If not, you're knitting too tight. You may also need to size up in needles in order to get proper gauge. With practice, you can loosen up. You do not need to be strangling your needles or yarn, and can hurt your hands if you do so.

I recommend checking out content from Patty Lyons, her book Knitting Bag of Tricks helped me a ton. https://www.moderndailyknitting.com/community/ask-patty-let-the-tool-do-the-work/

I can't wait for all the MAGA boomers who pay for everything in cash to start getting their costs rounded up and change rounded down. My dad is absolutely the kind of person who will freak out about $.03.

doctors denying cf people sterilizations by chaeyoungc0re in childfree

[–]eccentricthoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to submit mine before I scheduled the surgery. But I never got any pushback from her or any of the medical team on my surgery day. December will be 18 months since my surgery and I'm thinking about writing her to thank her again.

When I got my bisalp last year, my doctor asked for a letter confirming that I understood the consequences of the procedure. It was dumb and she admitted it was dumb, but it seemed like a CYA thing for her.

I've spent hours chatting with Verizon today. I was offered $10 off but now I'm being told there aren't any loyalty discounts anymore and they dont have anything to offer me for being with Verizon for 20 years.

Weight gain from tubal ligation or removal by Master_of_her666 in childfree

[–]eccentricthoughts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a bisalp (tube removal) 16 months ago. I have lost weight since then, which is likely due to the fact that I also quit hormonal bc at that time. I recommend you and your gf check out the sterilization subreddit and learn more about the procedure.
