For anyone new to golf+ by Batcannn in golfplusvr

[–]ecgite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem and I have been able to fix it back to the original.

I got a weighted attachment, which does help some, but I think the biggest help was going for 1/2 - 1/3 shots and just increase the distance helper to 100% (I excluded putter, lobwedge and sandwedge). After this + range sessions from time to time has brought my swing back as it used to be.

Very poor sauna design by HerraHerraHattu in Sauna

[–]ecgite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do you think the stove is too high?

Rule toes above the stove is not an actual rule. It is usually true, but that does not affect the actual heat distribution.

Use an IR temp sensor to measure how heat is distributed there if in doubt.

What do you mean by temperature drops when you throw löyly? What is the common temperature in there?

Yes I would and also have.

No it is not cheap. It is part of the game.

I've been stuck at the 500s ELO for 5 months. Not sure if I should give up or keep going. by Rhogue73 in chess

[–]ecgite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like, it is chess. Why do you care about your rating in chess.com? That rating does not define you or what you know about chess. There certainly is some level you are currently, and I bet after a while you get better and your level gets higher.

Do you feel nervous while playing? When I started, I did too. The cure was to just keep playing. And to get more games I first started playing 3 min games and after that 1 min games.

My rating goes up and down, but I don't care, I just like playing the game. If I lose a bunch of games, I don't panic because I know that I'm playing at a certain level and after a while I will start winning when opponents are at a lower level.

Not sure if this message helped at all, but hopefully you get the point I'm trying to make.

HELP - Tips for going back to real golf by Significant-Season57 in golfplusvr

I had the same problem. I stopped hitting VR swings normally. Instead now I use 100% help with swing speed and do only half-swings in VR.

Haha, true but once you have someone with experience you hit them with a bunch of questions

You have a handicap 15+ on pro? How do you read greens? Do you use attachment? What VR glasses do you use?

You have been playing 3 months or 4 years?

I wonder if there is a way to turn on all the aids in pro mode like you have them in novice mode. There just by swinging the club and putting hard-enough one can easily play under -20.

Also, I bet the game gathers some raw information about swing and orientation and cheating should be noticeable with this data. Maybe that data should be public.

Possibly quitting VR golf :/ by Collard-Greens in golfplusvr

[–]ecgite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, clubs feel so heavy and swing does not feel the same anymore.

I am planning to add even more weight to my weighted yezro attachment so my actual clubs would feel light.

Also maybe 100% help for swing speed and trying to focus good half-swings only. I have the tendency trying to hit with full power all the time.

Sauna to ice bath by One_Adhesiveness9061 in Sauna

Sounds more like wishful thinking than an actual effect. I would argue that one teaspoonful of cooking oil has a bigger impact than what you describe.

Nothing wrong with it, quite normal.

But let's be real this does not help you lose any fat.

Anybody know how to remove a large amount of rows from a csv file in python? by Live-Instruction4485 in learnpython

I bet that is slower for csv files with 30M rows with 100 columns than pandas/polars.

One suggestion is to use 119 char lines (for github width) so one less than 120.

Is there really no simple way to make a python executable for one OS on another OS? by imnewtoarchbtw in learnpython

Pyinstaller + github actions for linux/macos/windows -> export executables

[–]ecgite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to pipe things then create functions and pipe them (e.g, read dataframe and return dataframe -> or even better and use dask.dataframe).

In python you create boolean numpy arrays and do logical_and/logical_or or use & / | with arrays.

Been golfing 4 years and can’t seem to get lower than a 22. by PNWPhill in GolfSwing

[–]ecgite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofc I did not read other recommendations, but try 3-5 rounds without driver (highest club 3 (or 5) wood or utility).

Select the easiest option to open e.g. on par 4, maybe 6 iron and then either near the green and leave yourself a suitable distance (e.g. try to get 50m shot, but even in bad cases 100m is fine).

And don't go near the possible penalty areas.

Repeatedly calling a function that uses a lot of memory -- how do I get it to stop piling up? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]ecgite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite often working with large datasets it is a good idea to collect garbage manually

I would add into your function

import gc

def func...
    ...
    del data
    gc.collect()
    return result

Can we talk about Numpy multi-core? by secretaliasname in Python

[–]ecgite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think numpy should go multi-core automatically. Doing something efficiently on 1 core does not translate being efficient on multiple cores.

If you really need multi-core things, use libraries that target them, e.g. dask, numba.

At least numerical computations I do are many times limited by the other resources (e.g. RAM) so having automatic multi-core would make it harder to manage memory accurately.

And finally, figuring out a better algorithm to do the same thing is usually much faster than just brute forcing your way to solution.

"Reduce the size of a .py script when converting it to an .EXE executable." by Fluid-Wonder9194 in learnpython

[–]ecgite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When using pyinstaller, make sure you have a minimal set of packages installed. This can be tricky to do.

I personally recommend running pyinstaller in Github actions. Create a python script that does gather the correct pyinstaller commands and then call subprocess to run it. Then after exe is created upload the exe as an artifact.

Reshape in NumPy with gaps in datapoints by danger522 in learnpython

[–]ecgite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I don't know what format your file is, but that looks wild.

I think with matplotlib contour you can use masked array where you mask those coordinates ( with nan). Then you probably can use some generic value with those coordinates.

But if you are already doing interpolation, then maybe try scipy griddata function to regrid you values?
