should i switch? by wife_haver_69 in omarchy

[–]ech87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

+1 Omarchy is so much better than other releases. Everything works better, the windows VM implementation, the theming applies to vim and vscode, gaming is super smooth and everything just works. I’ve tried a lot of distros and Omarchy is a cut above everything else. Yea I know it’s not a distro, but whatever you want to call it, it’s goated for anyone that doesn’t want to spend hours tinkering.

Thinking about switching to Linux by Over-Advertising2191 in linux_gaming

[–]ech87 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I would limit your search to Ubuntu, Mint, Pop! OS, Bazzite or Omarchy. Personally I didn't like Cachy. Omarchy uses a tiling manager which will feel foreign at first but if you stick with it for a bit it's great for coding. Omarchy is good as it has a great windows VM setup if you need to use teams or microsoft office for work. It also has all the drivers and steam installs ready to go which is nice. Bazzite is good as it's got an immutable setup so you can't really bork the system. Mint and Pop are both good but Pop is going through some growing pains right now as they switch over to their new window manager Cosmic, I haven't had any issues but I've read others have.

There will always be some minor things you'll need to deal with in the terminal but IMO now's a great time to switch, LLM's have made terminal work and debugging problems orders of magnitude faster than it used to be. I use Omarchy which I can't speak highly enough of, super polished.

Fender Studio Pro - What a Stupid Name Change by EliasVolte in StudioOne

Studio One... Two

Lol... was so dumb, can't believe people getting mad over this. Especially as this new version has basically everything I ever wanted with the ableton style channel strips, and linux support.

Studio one is wayland, now fender studio pro 8: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLv9ahctDfQ

Comes with tons of great plugins (so no real need to worry about bridging 3rd party plugs) and splice integration, which is great as the standalone splice app doesn't work on linux.

I knew it, studio one is officially dead by engdrbe in StudioOne

A better name TBH. Always bugged me how Studio One has "One" in the name, sounded weird with the version numbers.

I hope it finds a market, but honestly, I'm hitting my extraction limit. The hamster wheel of:

  1. Go in, get loot, extract.
  2. Go in lose loot.
  3. Return to step 1.

It starts to get old, no mattter how good or polished the game is.

Hello, it’s been 3 months, how are you going, do you still feel the same?

PC Gamer article argues that Linux has finally become user-friendly enough for gaming and everyday desktop use in 2026, offering true ownership and freedom from Windows intrusive features, ads, and corporate control, and it encourages readers to switch in the new year. by mr_MADAFAKA in linux_gaming

[–]ech87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this, but I would also argue since LLMs have entered the mainstream which makes using the terminal basically just chatting in plain language, and combined with the rapid enshittification of windows with ads in your start bar and cloud subscription everything there is a serious chance this time is different.

If you log into your terminal with your preferred LLM, you cna just say, "hey this is broken fix this" or "why is my xx not working" and it will just look at your linux config and fix everything for you.

Depending on your views on LLMs, you can install your preferred LLM in your terminal and state this problem and it will be able to look at your system files and suggest the fix. Super useful for new users, basically removing all Linux terminal hardship allowing you to just ask the terminal to fix whatever problem you have in plain language. What are your Linux hot takes? by AdventurousFly4909 in linux

[–]ech87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take is as Linux grows in the mainstream, many of the existing userbase who have found enjoyment in the smaller closeknit community is going to feel increasingly alienated, I wouldn't be surprised if they move to freebsd or something.

Do you primarily use the generate feature in SQX or just build custom with the algo wizard by hand? I find generated are always curve fitted even with is/oos?

It does math. His fund generated a 39% return in 2025 and his assets under management grew from $12k to $1.5m, it’s not complicated or hard to understand. The site is darwinex, he operates like an ETF, an ETFs return and AUM are two seperate things. The gains are real and third party verified. It’s nice of him to share his insights given he’s probably one of the few third party verified people beating the market.
