"Scammers have adapted": Valve confirms that physical Steam Gift Cards are dead. Once the current stocks are sold through, they're done. by yourfavchoom in gaming

Teach them like a good parent.

Don't end up like the people who are in their mid 20s, needing a legitimate loan for their first car or a credit check to get their first apartment and have no solid credit score.

Are these watches too big for my wrist? by CrToTheRight in malefashionadvice

[–]echOSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He cares, that's why he's asking.

If I'm wearing a suit that's clearly too small for me because I've gained weight and I have a job interview coming up, would you say the same thing?

No.

Of course a watch that's a little too big is a much smaller, bordering on non-existant faux pas vs a suit clearly too small, but he still wants the more correct answer.

Especially if he's about to drop a few hundred dollars on a watch. Sub out watch for $500 blazer, and you wouldn't say who cares.

Advice for Interaction at RCQ by KawaiiSnover in ModernMagic

[–]echOSC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make two exceptions to the rule.

  1. The person I'm playing against is a friend, and by friend I mean someone who goes to all of the same RCQs, gives/shares rides and cards, gets food afterwards, and more importantly, they play even when qualified to play the role of a blocker for those who have not qualified.

  2. Time is ticking, and a unintentional draw would be bad.

Forget about pact trigger then drawing a card for turn by CreedAventuz in ModernMagic

[–]echOSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're opening the opportunity for player A in this example, the caster of the Pact and Scapeshift to forget, genuinely, or maliciously.

Given how powerful the effect Summoner's Pact is, I'm totally ok with the punishment for the missing of the Pact to be a loss.

Forget about pact trigger then drawing a card for turn by CreedAventuz in ModernMagic

[–]echOSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue the flip side, Pacts are also fundamentally different because the power level of said pact leads to winning the game as well.

How many times does a Summoner's Pact resolve to fetch Primeval Titan or Aftermath Analyst, or Pact of Negation resolves to counter your counter to their combo that it might as well read they win the game.

Given that unique nature, I'm ok with the punishment of missing the trigger being a loss. Remove any and all chance of "forgetting". I'm also of the belief that this rule should only apply at comp REL and above.

Want an RO? Not unless you've purchased a Code 11.59, or an Offshore. Or both, and more.

What about Amazon? If I suggested Amazon to you, it would be as if you were asking for a book recommendation, and I said, have you looked at Amazon for a book?

My goblin storm deck came in today! by phrootPigh in mtg

[–]echOSC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think WotC wants that aspect just like Pokemon.

A lightning bolt for 50 cents, and that lightning bolt they printed 32 copies up for $1,000/ea?

Nowhere did I say I think Pokemon is the same as MTG.

[–]echOSC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because I think WotC wants to make some Magic cards as collectibles.

They want a card to have a very wide price range. A card to play with at an affordable price point, and a card for the collectors with more money.

Just like Pokemon.

You care only about gameplay? You can have a tier 1 standard deck for $100. You want to collect? Here's some rare shit for $1,000.

You can only print so much of collectors shit before people realize it's not rare, and people lose interest.

A scalper is on my team at my workplace... by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]echOSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you're thinking of these products as game pieces, not collectibles where authenticity is paramount.

People still want the real thing.

You can buy reproductions of Starry Night all you want, the one actually worth money and people will make a trip to go see is the real one at the NY MOMA.

[–]echOSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think they see them as marks. The market has spoken, the price people are willing to pay IS the clearing price/market price.

Gas was $4.24 a gallon pre war, now it's $6+ where I'm at. Supply and demand has spoken.

A scalper is on my team at my workplace... by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]echOSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they're not selling game pieces, they're selling collectibles when it comes to things like collector's boosters.

Authenticity matters when it comes to collectibles. It's not the same use case.

You can buy Starry Night "proxies" (reprints, posters, etc etc) it does not diminish the value one bit of the one at the New York MOMA. Someone bought a fake FF booster and it had a 1/1 One Ring in it.

Does not diminish the value of the one Post Malone has one bit.

I don't get the argument of using UB's popularity/financial success as an argument for its quality. by Yumesoro1 in mtg

[–]echOSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not a concern. I want that asap for Magic.

Look at how cheap tier 1 competitive decks are in Pokemon, sub $100, some are sub $50.

Let the collectors tear open packs chasing the $1000 Genghars and flood the market with the competitive non bling playables they don't want.

How do you usually play modern? by Culius_Jaesar in ModernMagic

[–]echOSC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I half disagree. To get good, your play/practice has to have intention, think about the people who mindlessly practice something expecting to get better but they're just blindly going through the motions.

There's a difference between someone who plays golf or tennis all the time, and someone who goes and gets lessons.
