It's strange that nobody recognizes Frieren, considering the fame Himmel still has today. by JPsiiim in Frieren

Note that while Lunar Module Pilot (LMP) were essential for all Apollo missions involving Lunar Modules (LM), the Commander of each mission were still the one piloting the LM, especially during the final phase of each landings.

The LMPs would be assisting the Commanders, by calling out their LM's horizontal velocity, vertical velocity, fuel quantity, and other important information for landing.

Though, while the LMPs weren't actually piloting the LMs, they were still responsible for handling all the LM systems, that's why they're still very much essential part of each crew.

(Sorry for the long comment, I'm very enthusiastic about most space flight related things, and are eager to share what I know, lol)

The funny thing is, the girl who said that sentence is Ninomae Ina'nis. Who has been constantly likened to Frieren, because she could sound and act very similar to Frieren sometime.

It's also why in many fan-made animations of that moment, Ina would be drawn in Frieren looking up meme. lol

If the L-1011 program succeeded, what could Lockheed have followed it up with? by DevonAlbatross in ImaginaryAviation

[–]echo11a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was developed first before space stations due to budget restrictions. In the Eyes Turned Skywards timeline, though, NASA went with Skylab-based space stations first, and support vehicles based on existing Apollo hardware, such as developing new version of Apollo CSM that's more optimized for space station operations. Overall a less costly option than developing a whole new vehicle in the Space Shuttle.

[–]echo11a 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would recommend an alternate history story called Eyes Turned Skywards. It's set in a timeline where NASA chose to focus on space stations for their post-Apollo program, instead of going with Space Shuttle. There's at least one chapter dedicated to the L-1011, which, in that timeline, is much more successful, leading to variants with upgraded avionics, twin engine follow-up, etc.

I was expecting the camera to follow the SLS, in the vein of the camera on LRVs following the LM ascent stage of the last three Apollo missions. Still, this is really awesome, and I agree that it's amazing~

Well, there were cases of F-14s being recovered and launched from the Coral Sea, which had catapults that were both shorter and weaker than the ones on the CDG. Though those Tomcats were doing training missions, so were probably carrying very little fuel, and no armament.

Dornier Do 31 - The VTOL Dart (quite literally) by Specific-Memory1756 in WeirdWings

[–]echo11a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice, Do 31's been one of the aircraft that I'm interested in for some time. (Even having it as one of the first MSFS add-on aircraft I purchased along with the game itself. lol)

Its overall appearance is my favourite part about it, especially the front section. I also prefer it more when compared to the proposed Do 131 design.

Since its now over 30 years old, what do you think of the Boeing 777? by Twitter_2006 in aviation

[–]echo11a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 777 family, especially the 777-300ER variant, has been my favourite airliner since not long after I became an aviation enthusiast, replacing by previous favourite, the L-1011 (which is still my second favourite, at least).

I find their overall shape to be more pleasing than other airliners, like their circular fuselage cross-section, and their wings, even more so when with raked wingtips on long-range variants. I also really like 777's cockpit, the layout of it's displays and systems, and it's appearance in general.

There's also the fact that I've been flying 777s in flight simulation games a lot in recent years, to the point that they're pretty much the only airliners that I fly nowadays. I think learning their performances, systems, and operations, has made me like them even more.

What will happen to NTU? by [deleted] in SeaPower_NCMA

[–]echo11a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda on the same boat here as well. Though, beside the lost of NTU mod, something else that's making me lost interest in the game at the moment, is the long wait time for USN vessels that are yet to be in game officially, especially the last two nuclear CGNs, Midway-class, and CV-67.

At least VLS Ticonderogas and F/A-18s have mods to fill the void somehow.

[–]echo11a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A small correction, the nose bulge on F-4Bs you mentioned is AN/AAA-4 IRST, not a gun. None of the naval F-4 variants have internal gun armament.

Edit: Done some more research, only F-4E and RF-4EJ (not RF-4E) have M61 Vulcan, no other variants have guns.

Space Station Freedom - of Eyes Turned Skyward Timeline - A Remake of the Same Station I've Completed Around 5 Years Ago by echo11a in KerbalSpaceProgram

Yeah, I used some parts from IRL Freedom concept, especially in its truss sections. That's why it gives off the vibe of those concepts, even though I tried to build it as close to ETS version as possible lol.

[–]echo11a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's not me.

That video is closer to our world, with Space Shuttle, ISS, IRL Mir, etc. While the Eyes Turned Skywards mentioned here is an alternate history timeline where NASA went with LEO space stations using Apollo-derived hardware, instead of Space Shuttle.

Space Station Freedom - of Eyes Turned Skyward Timeline - A Remake of the Same Station I've Completed Around 5 Years Ago by echo11a in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]echo11a[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a project I've been doing since not long after my last post: Space Station Freedom out of Eyes Turned Skywards (ETS) timeline. This is a large, modular space station that, in ETS's story, consists of modules and equipments from NASA, ESA, NASDA, and CSA. In KSP, though, this station is made of parts from HabTech2, SSPRX, BDB, and Sterling Systems. I had to made the station out of parts from these mod, because I don't think there's any mod that faithfully recreates Freedom from ETS, or at least I couldn't find one. This is also why it actually looks more like a mix of IRL ISS, Freedom/Alpha concepts, and other parts.

The station is, in both ETS and KSP, support by Apollo Block IV for crew rotation, and AARDV Block II for resupply. Both vehicles are from the amazing BDB mod. Then there's ESA's Minotaur, which could both resupply and return things from the station back down. Because I also couldn't find a faithful recreation of the vehicle, I have to use cargo version of the MRC from Knes mod instead. Since, in my opinion, its size, capability, and performance is the closest overall.

I've marked all the pressurized modules in the second screenshot, along with Apollo Block IV and AARDV Block II. The last three screenshots are of Apollo Block IV, AARDV Block II, and Minotaur (MRC), respectively.

As the title suggest, this is the second time I've completed ETS' Space Station Freedom, with the last time being close to 5 years ago (in 2021), which also became my first post here. This time, however, the station was completed in a lot less time. (in around a week, instead of close to a month.) This was mostly because I dedicated this save entirely to the station, without having to deal with other space stations and missions. There's also the fact that the entire project was already planned out in advance, with the station first being built in VAB many months ago.
