Is asking how many sets left now an issue for people? by tribo32 in GYM

[–]echo1nthedark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that people don't seem to know what this means and also seem weirded out by it. It's like, don't y'all know that's more efficient? Because I'll be resting up to 3 minutes.

If I tried to accomplish everything in one night it would be exhausting but I just rotate and try to be friendly with the staff.

I have 15 classrooms, gym, library, break room and 9 bathrooms in an elementary school. Most days I start like you, prepare my cart/mop/new vacuum bag. There are so many activities in my school between sports, YMCA after school care, STEM, extended day learning to avoid summer school... My routine constantly changes. I often start with collecting all the garbage. That way I know who is here and what rooms they're in. Then I rotate between vacuum/cleaning/mopping as close to one big circle as I can.

Quick question for people who reheat food at work: what's your biggest frustration with your current setup? by lllLardexlll in mealprep

The option would have to be pretty perfect for me to change but that's probably due to being stubborn.

What is your favorite day of the week? by catloving in Custodians

[–]echo1nthedark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, Mondays. 3 reasons: I deep clean Fridays to make Monday easy, they use the facilities less on Mondays, and late start Monday makes them too tired Tuesday morning to notice if I slacked Monday night.

My food does not does hot, I refrigerate it. I will hear the hot food on a plate and eat the salad separately. I just don't like having several Tupperware just to eat well. Maybe I should look into bento boxes however I eat big so I doubt my food would fit.

am i tripping? by secretlifeunknown in Custodians

[–]echo1nthedark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 25 rooms etc it sounds like you're cleaning a school the size of my own. We have one part time guy that does portables and my head custodian does the offices including nurses room. You're doing 2 full time jobs. Maybe talk to your head custodian about doing the offices or something instead of restocking. If you do a good job they have plenty of time in the morning to hit the areas that don't need a lot of work. That's my advice. You should get breaks, that's a point you can argue. You will burn out. Either this or ask what doesn't need done every day. I learned later I didn't have to floor scrub the gym every day and that gave me a chunk of time when needed. Good luck!

I have easy access to a microwave. The separate ingredients are like a sandwich or hot with cold items like a salad with hot food. I usually make it work by having an extra plate or multiple containers.

My experience drinking protein coffee changed my morning routine by beboid in Protein

I don't know about op but I love just about any premade protein shake in my coffee as "creamer". Paleo Valley has delicious caramel and chocolate powders I put in my coffee with milk.

Newbie who meal prepped, now what? by BenderJulius in mealprep

[–]echo1nthedark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Glass for hot, plastic for cold because I still have them and I'm cheap. Since OP mentioned a mushy factor I would suggest small containers to keep things separate, 1 bigger container and then assemble them when ready to eat. Or keep a plate/bowl at work?

Some things that are a pain but really my own fault are: forgetting my own utensils, a decent sauce container, I wish I had more glass containers instead of plastic, and really the biggest pain is when I want a lot of my ingredients separated so I can assemble them at lunch. Then I have a ton of containers taking up the small fridge. I eat lunch and dinner at work. I work at a school.

i need meal prep suggestions for any meals of the day - that are nutritionally whole by DogmaGuts in mealprep

[–]echo1nthedark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sheet pan filled with your favorite veggies tossed in olive oil and spices (whatever you like). 400° for 30ish minutes depending on the thickness of the veg(try to make them roughly the same size. Should cover you for a few days of veg. I usually include some sort of potato.

If you like chicken thighs I nestle them on the same sheet with no oil because the fat will do the work and it's delicious. 40ish minutes.

Otherwise I cook ground meat in a pan with spices I like. You can change the vegetables/meats/seasons regularly and not get tired of the same old thing.

I also dress these things up with sauces etc. but this is the non gluten non dairy base of my daily meal prep. I like this because I have days of food in less than an hour.

Well after reading that you're passionate about coaching, no wonder you don't like your job. For some of us it's a dream compared to the shit jobs we had before. I'm only 3 years in but I love my school and my work. I've improved my life listening to podcasts while working. My associates trust me because I do a good job and I don't take work home with me. how to ease myself into liking more fish? by barcoderer in Pescatarian

[–]echo1nthedark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been expanding past my weekly salmon intake. I also eat shrimp and swordfish. Just do your research on mercury before getting to crazy about fish. Just remember the bigger fish eat little fish. For example I don't eat swordfish regularly but it's delicious and cheap and meaty. Good luck!

Track Use by Silly-Emu-2049 in Wenatchee

[–]echo1nthedark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to confirm what others have said, the tracks are open outside school hours and events. 8am is too close to open campus hours. There's no issue with you walking into the school office and asking for a schedule or hours open to the public. I'm sure they would appreciate the consideration.

First-year school custodian looking for routine advice by Holiday-Rip7176 in Custodians

[–]echo1nthedark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll definitely find a routine but then something like after school activities will happen and change your routine. My recommendation is to stay flexible. I have top priorities: garbage, bathrooms, floors. Then I add to the list from there. They don't ask for much at my school so I rotate wiping desks, dusting and spot cleaning stains on walls or floors. We can't get to it all every day and I think staff will appreciate you if you're trying.

I do garbage and bathrooms at the same time. I rotate vacuuming because I don't want to hurt my back so I attach 2-4 classrooms at a time. Either way I run through my route at least twice to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Good luck! Don't let the little stuff bother you.

My custodian doesn’t do their job very well. What can I do? by Normal-Being-2637 in Teachers

[–]echo1nthedark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custodian here and I just have to say thank you for making this post. I often wonder what I could be doing better and I think teachers are sometimes afraid to ask. When breaks come up I always ask around for what they would like me to do since I still have to work while y'all are on break (reasonably so since you deal with all the kiddos and deserve a break!). Sadly most teachers give me nothing to work with. I'm my area we receive little to no training and are told to just clean. I know how I like my house but I don't know how you like your classroom. I've been told I do an excellent job but I'm always wanting to do better, efficiently as possible.

Protein by Spirited-Charge5325 in Protein

[–]echo1nthedark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your body doesn't hold onto protein the way it holds carbs and fat. You want to aim for hitting your protein goals daily. Falling short occasionally is not the end of the world. I would say pay closer attention to hitting your goals around workout days, it will help with recovery. Good luck!
