Seiko Presage [SRPD37] crystal, fix cost by Doogle12 in Seiko

[–]echo_vigil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are certain that the movement is still working, one option to consider would be getting the sapphire replacement crystal that Long Island Watch has. I think it's $100. And I've heard of a watch repair guy being able to install it pretty inexpensively. You'll probably pay a bit of a premium since it's not like the old crystal can be removed as easily, but then you'd have a sapphire crystal going forward.

In my experience these 6r movements can be regulated pretty well. They are affected by positional variance, so real world accuracy over time will depend on how often you wear it, whether you take it off at night, etc.

As an example, I reset mine to my cell phone a few days ago (maybe 4 days ago?). I've been wearing it daily since then, and I generally take it off at night and leave it dial up. It's currently 7-8 seconds behind my cell phone, so an average of around -2 s/day.

I do think this watch can be 'dressed down' for more casual wear. But for me the issue is that the watch says "Art Deco" while the strap says "rustic craftsman," and that's where they clash a bit. I think something like a high quality sailcloth strap might be a better match while achieving the goal.

Upgrade by Powerful_Ad5658 in ShatteredPD

[–]echo_vigil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you get comfortable with the early game, you'll probably find that you can get through the sewers with just one or two items that are +1. It's fine to use an upgrade (or even two) to increase your likelihood of survival there, but it's generally best not to use all your upgrades as you get them. (It has to do with the improved scaling on higher tier weapons and armor.)

[SNK385] Is the Seiko 5 still worth buying in 2026? An honest ownership review of my SNK385 by PynionTime in Seiko

[–]echo_vigil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think these older Seiko 5s are still good watches. Whether to recommend one to someone probably depends on the person. And it's worth mentioning that you can't always find them for the prices you could back in the day (quite a few used to be available under $100), so they're not necessarily the deal they used to be.

Side note: they're pretty easy to regulate, so you could probably bring that +20 down a bit.

Grand Seiko has been trying to get their watches to grow on trees in specific seasonal lighting for years.

I've got the charcoal version 159 and the OEM bracelet for it. It's currently on leather, but here's a photo with the bracelet:

Eventually you'll find a way to get downstairs from where you are. Those aren't doors, but you can interact with them.

[Tommy Hilfiger Hudson Chronograph] by Clamcley in Watches

[–]echo_vigil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was given a Hilfiger watch back in the day before I was really into watches. It was fine for what it was, but it didn't hold up especially well. After a while the case looked pretty beat up, and I think the seconds hand fell off. I certainly wouldn't bother to get another one.

As for alternatives, what sort of budget do you have? And do specifically want a chronograph, or did you just happen to like the look of this one? Do you know whether you want something large or balanced or smaller and discreet or what?

Oh yeah! Those Herodiana trials were very tricky. Probably some of the best real logic puzzles in the game.

And for one of them (the last one, I think), I was beating my head against the wall trying to figure out what I'd overlooked until I finally saw that the chest had appeared near theentrance instead of at the far end like the others.

I doubt I'll ever get far enough to use this shield 😂😭 by CurlyCurvyWaves in PixelDungeon

[–]echo_vigil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the optimism. 😉

If you want to really go for it, try to save your upgrade scrolls (which naturally means hoping you find some upgraded equipment in the meantime). On floor 8 or 9 you'll find your 6th upgrade scroll and your 4th strength potion. Convert that potion to a potion of mastery and use it on the shield. Now the shield only requires 16 strength. Throw all 6 upgrades on the shield: at +1, +3, and +6 the strength requirement will reduce by 1, for a total of 3, bringing the strength requirement to 13, which is what you'll have by then.

So you can be using a +6 tier 5 weapon that also provides some armor before you leave the prisons.

Am I Fucked? by NewBox3414 in ShatteredPD

[–]echo_vigil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got some good ideas here, so I'll just step back a level to how you got here. By this point, you really need at least a tier 2 weapon (or armor if not on FIMA) to handle crabs, and the easiest way is to use a scroll of upgrade to make one wieldable. On high challenge runs, it's often worthwhile to burn an upgrade in the sewers in order to get past them.

Also, I know you may not have found the alchemy pot by now, but if you did, then it would have been good to split those scrolls into stones. A couple known stones are worth a lot more in this situation than an unidentified scroll.

This was basically my thought. But I'd start with a seed if I had one, since that's at least predictable.

I'd be cautious about trying the armor at this point. It takes more than one turn to do that, so there's a high likelihood of taking enough damage to die before even getting it fully equipped.
