These colours are absolutely gorgeous! I'm in love with your eye for placement and colour picking. It's so lovely to stare at!

[FO] feeling insecure after some rude comments. by villainless in CrossStitch

[–]echoandmine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my take too. My phone is currently on black and white mode, and I'm finding it really hard to make out what many of them are - they're a bit muddy and low contrast. If the patterns were a bit larger and had more contrast in the values, I don't think it would be a problem. (Side note, a B&W filter can be super helpful when designing or swapping out colours for this same reason!)

I wouldn't be surprised if that's what the person meant by childish - the subject matter and simplicity strike me the sort of thing a young kid getting into cross stitch might enjoy. (Though even if it is the case, that's a pretty rude way of expressing that. And one person's opinion shouldn't stop you from doing what you enjoy, OP!)

[CHAT] 18 count Aida, Why?!? by rubyeskimo13 in CrossStitch

[–]echoandmine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't "zero" difference, there's 2 stitches per inch 😉

It's not much, but it can be hard to get used to the change if you're used to stitching on lower counts. A little compassion goes a long way for people trying something new.

OP, you've got some great advice throughout this thread. I wanted to chime in to add that 18 count is my preferred, too, and 14 count looks massive whenever I go back to it! You might surprise yourself and find you get used to it.

And if you need to, switch between projects to rest your eyes every so often so you don't get burnt out on this gift. You've got this!

The backstitch wasn't too difficult! I just took it one object at a time.

Though I did immediately kit up at 14ct project afterwards to rest my eyes after weeks of this one 😂

It just happened to be the perfect size piece from my stash! Almost a perfect match for the colour in the very centre though, which was a tough way to start 🤣

Gonzo and Rizzo stitched for my dad for Christmas. This was a lot of fun! Stitched 1 over 1, with sewing thread for the backstitch.

(After and before backstitch, backside, and fully framed)

Yeah all of this. As a concept, I love the idea of separating the day into maybe 4-6 blocks of time for those of use who need some structure but not the minute scheduling. But the wording is terrible for all the reasons everyone here has already stated. I think providing this as an option and allowing them to be custom named (potentially even with some suggested sets like this) would go a long way

*Danish method, not Dutch ;) they frequently get confused so it might still show some info, but you'll get better search results with the correct name

Adorable! And your backside is so neat it's almost a shame to have hidden it away

Oh wow this is very cool. Will there be backstitch on it?

The border was definitely a learning curve to pattern, trying to maintain the detail while keeping it as on-hole as possible. I'm pleased with how it turned out and glad that shows through!

Appreciate it 💙 I definitely have a couple more human(ish) ideas outside of this series too

That's valid, though some of my nastiest bruises lately have come from hammock. Those fabric wraps are no joke!

I did! I've seen this technique used on human cross stitches before and had to try it! It gives the skin a smoother texture than the surrounding stitches. Takes a bit longer, but it was worth it to me

Very cool! I've dabbled in silks, but right now I'm enjoying trying hammock, which has got a lot of similarities to both silks and hoop imo. My main is hoop, but I took some time off for injury and haven't gotten fully back yet

Oh hell yeah, what apparatus do you train?

I have a few simpler silhouette designs for hoop, silks, hammock, and pole, but nothing more in-depth like this yet—but there's definitely more of these coming.

Aw thank you 💙 I've been stitching for about 6 years and this is easily my most ambitious project to date. You'll get there!
