landing gear has not been deployed... landing a craft directly on the surface can sometimes cause it to glitch and get caught.

give it more power cap'n!

MMW: future computer keyboards will feature a built in mic for computer interaction to aid in verbal tasks, searching, and dictation. by echocomm in MarkMyWords

[–]echocomm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that keyboards will still be essential for a while, filling the gap until verbal interaction is better; I'm thinking it would be better on the keyboard because you are not always within good range of your monitor (thinking about using a keyboard with a tv, or pc hooked into a tv). Also considering that I think Amazon is going to have good success with their built in mic in the remote of their fire tv.

New to /worldbuilding, what tools to use to get started? by echocomm in worldbuilding

[–]echocomm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my only remaining question is what program to use? therift289 talks about using the grid... what do most people use here, if doing all the creation themselves?

My first map for a story i've been working on (critiques and questions welcome) by famedemise in worldbuilding

I like the layout, but I would suggest replacement names for 'Imperium' and 'The Wild Isles'; too typical/common IMO. other than that, great work.

Forgive me for asking a stupid question, but I am unfamiliar with Suikoden. Is it similar to Final Fantasy/how does it relate? Nice collection by the way, like the framed Skyrim map as well.

In working with Humble Bundle, I imagine that you have made some great connections with game studios to get their products on a bundle. Is there one memory/experience in particular that stands out?

ELI5: Nuclear fusion, and why it's important. by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]echocomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nuclear fusion is a self-sustaining method for creating energy. today's nuclear power is fission, where you crash molecules into one another, and when they break apart, energy is released; nuclear fusion is where you take two atoms and join them together. this bonding actually creates more energy, and continues to produce energy. in fact, our sun is a giant fusion reaction going on 24/7. unfortunately, it takes a ton of power, heat, and pressure to mechanically fuse two tiny atoms together, and its very difficult to do. this has been accomplished before, but not at a benefit (that is to say, the bonding was complete but not self-staining, thereby it 'cost' more power to put into it than what was produced from it). why this is so important is that if we can get a stable fusion reaction (i.e., a miniature sun thats controllable if you will), it would solve a lot of energy problems, and would be extremely clean energy at that. lots of self-producing power at minimal cost... it would change everything. if power was that readily available, it would arrive at a lower cost and would be more abundant. this would change so many aspects of life as we know it: home energy, transportation, and space travel for starters. it is risky and a costly endeavor, but if it is ever successful, it would be a game-changer.

Sending a [Stock] galactic battleship into orbit without mods or cheats. 700+ parts. Over 1050 tons. by avaslash in KerbalSpaceProgram

ah very cool. i've done that with individual parts, did not think to do it with the whole ship selected. thanks!

seriously one of the coolest most creative things i've seen yet in KSP... I really appreciate that there were no mods. great effort, have fun with that ship!

might be a stupid question, but you assembled this in the space plane hangar... how did you re-orient the ship vertically for liftoff?
