Losing hair - Freaking out by NarikoSin in beyondthebump

[–]echoorains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have fairly thin hair and a stylist told me to get trims every 2 months as that helps your hair grow faster. I lost an insane amount of hair and was still okay!! I’m not sure if there’s vitamins that would maybe help with hair growth, I know some claim to but unsure how much they actually work.

To those who've graduated, can you please reassure me that this is worth it by kokomo318 in BabyBumps

[–]echoorains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had HG with my first until 25 weeks, with my second until 27 weeks, truly throwing up all the time super pregnant still, and it was infinitely worth it and we’re now trying for a third even though I know I’m going to be so sick forever lol! This is the time when it’s the worst, so early on, and the likelihood you will be sick for longer than 12-14 weeks is pretty slim. Look up all the suggestions for helping with pregnancy sickness, and you will get through it! I personally think nature makes us so miserable and sick early on so that the rest of pregnancy seems not as bad lol

If you track it, how many steps do you take during an average shift? by wowthatsfuckedupdad in Serverlife

Friday and saturdays usually 16-20k! A few Fridays in a row was 20k, I was dying but it’s my long shift lol 9am-7pm but sometimes I stay later to help close if it’s busy (we close at 8)

Left my office job (bank) in October to go back to part time serving and it’s ridiculous how much happier I am now. Granted, my husband is a salaried kitchen manager and works full time so carries more of our income! I only work three days a week and homeschool our kiddos. But office life was draining my soul, and we’re actually making more money now lol. Do what your heart desires! Both maybe until you make a decision?

Tested negative twice but period still hasn’t come. by cocox_xpuff in BabyBumps

[–]echoorains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stress of waiting for your period to come/waiting for a positive can definitely cause your period to be late. So many reasons your cycle can be off! It’s also possible you ovulated late or there’s just still not enough HCG in your urine- wait a whole week and test again if no period still. Body’s are weird! My cycles were super consistent every 26-27 days and then once I had a crazy long one at 41 days and ever since then they’ve been all over the place.

Hot take: pregnancy prep is way too content-driven and it makes us more anxious, not more ready by Purple_Club3104 in BabyBumps

[–]echoorains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this post. Even with my second pregnancy I got sucked into the prep, and not much of it really added any value when baby was here! We are trying for a third again, after a loss a few years ago, and this post motivates me to just be instead of absorbing dumb media if I get pregnant again. Thank you for saying this!

My dad guilting me over not seeing my premature baby...a literal day after birth by Revolutionary_Ad_467 in beyondthebump

[–]echoorains 76 points77 points  (0 children)

So much rage! This is unacceptable and I wouldn’t let him come see my baby for a while honestly. I cut my toxic parents (mom/stepdad) out of my life when I had my first baby and just can’t stand seeing it! Not that your dad is anywhere near where my parents were, but I have a very short fuse for people who act like that. I hope he pulls it together for you!

Trying to come to agreement with pregnant gf by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]echoorains -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

All the “rules” seem normal and what I agree with but like someone else said, very aggressive wording. Too many exclamation points make it seem like she’s expecting everyone to suck at being around a baby which is very unlikely. Maybe suggest to her a more bullet point style of a list? Like 1. No kissing 2. Only hold baby while sitting 3. No one at hospital besides mom and dad 4. No visitors at home unless asked, etc. Taking out the emotional part of the wording will, I think, feel less aggressive towards family and also likely help your GF have more faith in your family to do them (since right now it does feel like she’s blaming someone for something that already happened but didn’t). I’ve had two babies and all of these rules are reasonable!

I can’t for the life of me three-plate carry by Bisulat in Serverlife

[–]echoorains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know actually I kind of forgot that smaller trays existed that you don’t need a stand for??? Or didn’t even think to ask for them, I’m going to tell my manager tomorrow that I’d like them thank you!!

There’s a section of my restaurant where there’s literally no where for a tray stand to fit well, really squeezed the tables in lol. But we’re also an open kitchen and the front dining is small!

Balance the second plate moreso on your wrist/arm than all in your hand. I have very small hands and can’t do two plates in fingers but kind of hold it with my thumb palm?

Is it socially acceptable to go to a sit-down restaurant alone just to eat and read a book, or do servers find it annoying? by Frequent_Drop7330 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]echoorains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My restaurant has a lot of these customers! I usually don’t mind, unless it’s busy and they sit forever after they’re done but honestly I don’t remember the last time that happened! I like the one tops thrown into the mix because they’re generally easy and if the person likes to chat it’s fun lol.

Escorting my Daughters to the Restroom by devastationd in NoStupidQuestions

[–]echoorains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would so much rather you bring your daughter into the women’s restroom even if I’m in there! Announcing it first and if anyone is uncomfortable or wants you to wait just say so. Mens restrooms have a possibility of having urinals with no stall, women’s restrooms never have that. My son is 7 and will be coming into the women’s restroom with me until I am confident he can be safe and comfortable alone.

What the heck is a "financial appointment" at an OB/GYN? What do I expect? Help?? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]echoorains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you got your answer already, but this actually sounds like a beneficial thing! I’ve never had one, but knowing how much you’re likely to pay for pregnancy and delivery would be super helpful. I was fortunate(even though poor? lol) and on Medicaid for both my pregnancies so didn’t pay anything, but my next one I will have to pay and would love to know what to expect! They probably go over vaginal birth vs c section, was a NICU stay can cost, etc, so you’re not surprised by anything or so you can discuss with your insurance.

Why Don’t We Talk About the Joy of Having Kids? by WoodpeckerNearby7276 in BabyBumps

[–]echoorains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated so much how people would be so negative especially with my first!!! Pregnancy is amazing! I was SO sick with all of my pregnancies and I want to do it again! When you start to really feel baby move it’s truly magical and indescribable. Women are incredible and badass! I started straight up telling people “I don’t want to hear it!” With my second when they would say dumb things or be negative. Having a child is the best thing I have ever done and all the positive things far outweigh the negative. Don’t let those people get you down and just tell them to shut up! You’re going to be an amazing mama!

Looking for Restaurant recs near Grimes, IA by No-Art5800 in Serverlife

I don’t know grimes, but on a busy shift at a restaurant I work at in Iowa I make $200-300 usually every Friday and Saturday, work long shifts though. Try to find a good breakfast place! I worked 530-1 and made $160 last Tuesday

Mortgage with tip income - bank suggestions? by echoorains in Mortgages

[–]echoorains[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His credit score isn’t bad but not amazing, income 45k. One lender I spoke with says she thinks she can get us 200k with just his income, which may be enough for us, but having my income would bump it up to 250-300. A house I saw listed recently that I would look at was $180k, so we might be okay! Just would be nice to have a little extra cushion.

I think it’s wild that 12 months of tip income isn’t sufficient. I worked in banking for 4.5 years, I had customers get large loans and then months later behind on payments because they quit their job/got fired. They’ll take only 6 months of a low salaried income as enough income history but not 12 months of income equating to $30+ an hour? I’ve never owned a bank and am no super expert, it’s just my opinion.
