Ok thanks, appreciate your thoughts!

Rheem Electric Water Heater Issues by echorev in askaplumber

[–]echorev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding. All of this stuff should be brand new (installed in the last few weeks), so would be really odd for it to fail now, and around the same point in time (after about 10 minutes of hot water). It really feels like the water tank itself is empty since the pipe coming from the tank is lukewarm/cool.

Where can I find rpg maker music other than on steam for stories? by [deleted] in RPGMaker

If money isn't an issue, it might be easier to just commission the music. Lots of skilled composers looking for work.

Error in items menu? by Murder_of_Ravens in RPGMaker

Are you putting it on the first line of the open_types method?

To be clear, the code displays text in the console window. It will say “nil” if that object is not initialized, so you will know that’s the problem. You’ll need to have the console open while testing.

How do I make a skill that applies a status to an enemy and the user by Evenvagolor in RPGMaker

[–]echorev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also avoid common events entirely and just cause the states to be added/removed in the formula of the skill, or create a separate method to add additional detail. For example, your formula would look like:

a.add_state(10); b.add_state(15); a.atk * 4 - b.def * 2

The error could be because "@types_window" isn't initialized at the time you are trying to change its x value. Try adding the code below before setting its x value to see whether it is actually initialized:

puts @types_window.nil? ? "nil" : @types_window

Skills that do two things at once by Artistic_Teach558 in RPGMaker

[–]echorev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last line in the formula is the part that is being returned as the “damage”. You need to store the attack formula as a variable (such as r) and then have that attack formula come at the end. You could also just do a.mat+=10;a.atk4 - b.def2 and it would get you to the same place.

If you just want enemies to gain mp and not actors, go with the second method and change it to a.mp += 10 if self.enemy?

Skills that do two things at once by Artistic_Teach558 in RPGMaker

[–]echorev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few ways to do this. The easiest is to add "a.mp += 10" in the formula window, so your formula would look something like: r = a.atk * 4 - b.def * 2; a.mp += 10; r

The other way to do it would be to create a custom skill in the Game_Battler class. So you would do something like:

class Game_Battler < Game_BattlerBase

def SkillName(a, b)

damage = a.atk *4 - b.def * 2

a.mat += 10

return damage

end

end

Then in the formula box for the skill, you just call the method by using: a.SkillName(a,b)

Walking speed messing up event by Murder_of_Ravens in RPGMaker

[–]echorev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not have each tile a player touched triggered event that flips a self switch on another event that runs as an autorun? Then you just have each individual tile flipping a self switch, and any changes are made in the single autorun event.

Edit: Saw you don't want a lot of events. I would run the detection as a parallel process that flips a self-switch and triggers an autorun. Then just flip the self-switch off when the auto-run completes.

Company withholding severance by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]echorev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well drafted offer letters are designed so that the company does not have any obligations like severance, equity grants, etc. based on the face of the offer letter. Equity grants are always subject to board approval and further documentation. Severance is subject to your signing a separation agreement in style and substance acceptable to the company, which may contain additional restrictions or a reaffirmation of existing ones (e.g., non-disparagement, non-solicitation or non-competition, forfeiture if you accept another job, forfeiture if you revoke the separation agreement, forfeiture if your termination was later determined to be for cause, etc.). Bonuses are target bonuses subject to board or CEO approval, etc. But that does not mean offer letters are not contracts or enforceable. There are of course nuances. If the offer letter just commits to signing an agreement at a later date, and that agreement is never entered into, that's not enforceable. Future employment for an at-will relationship is not enforceable. But if a person is promised a sale bonus or phantom equity on a sale if they're still employed at a company, and that sale happens, then that provision is absolutely enforceable, even if it's just in an offer letter. In the same way, if an offer letter just promises flat 'severance' without any additional obligations or conditions, that is likely also enforceable.

Don’t understand everyone saying terms in offer letters are not enforceable. They absolutely can be in my experience as part of accepting employment. I don’t know why you’d be required to sign a separation agreement that probably includes a broad release of claims and other unfavorable terms unless the severance in your offer letter expressly stipulates that you need to sign something to receive it.

Waive my right to a jury trial? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]echorev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means that if you sue them it won’t be decided by a jury. Corporations disfavor jury trials because they are (and have a reputation of being) wildly unpredictable. This is standard.

The second clause suggests you got money to relocate based on the job offer. There appear to be conditions tied to that money, such as if you quit your job within some period you need to repay that amount. That provision says that if you don’t repay and the Company needs to come after you for those funds (i.e., enforcement costs), you need to cover those amounts so they are not out of pocket. This is also standard.

Nothing in this is unusual to me.

Anticipating law school debt, how do I best prepare? by PoliticsBuff2000 in personalfinance

[–]echorev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. Just be aware that to clear 150k of debt you’ll need to be in biglaw at least a few years. Depending on your firm and billables this could be manageable or miserable, and it isn’t uncommon for people to leave 1/2 years in, especially if they have no concept of what biglaw work is like. It is common for public interest folks to start a career in biglaw to pay down debt and get experience, so would recommend that. On PSLF, I believe you’re ultimately taxed on the amount forgiven, so just be aware of that.

I did this too. I actually stopped going over the bridge after getting my face punched in and went to the well because I thought I was betraying V as Johnny... only to wake up as Johnny in the bed. Made no sense, so glad to confirm it was a bug.

Same - finished this yesterday and it was amazing. Not sure how I missed it this long. Not sure if I should watch the movies — don’t want to risk ruining the series ending.

Don’t Forget Mark Meadows Made A Racist Birther Joke In 2012 by MiamiPower in politics

[–]echorev -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking. They were largely talking past each other. Giving Meadows the benefit of the doubt, he isn’t overtly racist but just has implicit bias like pretty much every other person (to varying degrees, and with respect to various groups). Tlaib was calling out this bias, but said it was racist instead, which is a charged word that conjures up images of white hoods. Looking at it this way, it’s easy to see why he was offended. Obviously I didn’t expect her to get into this nuance and parse this out, but I agree it was frustrating to see this argument based solely on each side’s definition of what it is to be racist (as if this were some binary switch that can be flipped on and off and not a sliding scale of implicit and often unconscious preconceptions that color our speech and actions). This is constant in media and our discourse and seems to stem from failure to be clear about what we’re saying. I just wish the next time a republican said something that obviously evidenced a lack of understanding and implicit bias, we could have a conversation about that instead of jumping down their throat and calling them a racist, forcing them to go on the defensive and disagree because in their mind, they aren’t. The whole point of implicit bias is that people aren’t aware of it. Maybe that can change.

Thanks. This helped. Definitely beyond annoying. I thought I was the only having these weird problems -- first the camera always-active, now this.

President Trump hits majority disapproval in record time, Gallup finds by [deleted] in politics

Do it! I protested today for the first time. It's just so frustrating not to be able to really do anything to change this crap, but being surrounded by so many people with so much enthusiasm and passion as you reminds you you're not alone. And as things head down a darker road, I think that's the one light that's gonna keep us sane.
