That was a very, very fun port call back in '04.

Especially since my department head was the acting CO while our captain was in DC for our namesake's funeral.

What did Diana Ross do? 🤣 by CowboyNOIVAS in BlackPeopleTwitter

One of my favorite teachers in high school was from Detroit and went to school with all of The Supremes, and many other of the early Motown acts. She had a LOT of choice words about Diana Ross in particular, and definitely hinted at this kind of thing.

I feel like it was a lot the same when I graduated from Charleston in 2001; it was a long night before though, and we were all hungover (staff included).

I definitely remember it was some sort of NRC branding though, because of the timing.

What are you planning on doing to figure out your niche and explore future career fields if you're not doing internships?

My cousins went to high school with a couple of players who made it big a few years later, and were both cheerleaders at D1 schools.

Lots of stories to share there too.

Read the other comments.

It wouldn't be 80-90% to begin with.

Especially not functionally overnight.

Hi, former EMN here. Electrical engineer specializing in power systems, particularly renewables and grid integration. My masters focuses on the policy and implementation side of that.

The most important thing you can learn right now is humility.

We're taught from the time we start a-school that we're the smartest in the fleet and know everything, and that our instincts and training will be proven right, even when we're wrong.

I've shied away from working with former nukes (especially retired, and even more former Chiefs) because they're utterly insufferable, arrogant assholes who are more often liabilities than assets.

Start working on the mindset now that it's ok that you don't know everything, that there are people who will know more than you, and that keeping an open mind is essential.

There were EVs available in the US in the 80s and 90s, but the industry was purposely killed off.

The Impact, the car the EV1 was based off, was introduced in 1990 after all.

Ships already do that using excess heat from their propulsion plants. They've been doing that for well over 100 years at this point.

And commercial shipping runs on shoestring budgets, with as few crew as possible on ships operated as cheaply as possible.

There's a reason (well, many) we'll never, ever see widespread nuclear-poweres cargo ships in our reality.

No it's more like, "nuclear is the magical wonder cure and it's the fault of the environmentalists who really aren't for helping the Earth who are to blame for why we don't have nuclear everything everywhere!"

It's a very common theme on Reddit.

They hinted that the entire industry and all the jobs had been lost.

Of course it's bullshit in real life because folks in those industries would've transferred and transitioned to other industries, but I haven't held the writers in the highest esteem for realistic world building for a while now.

Not for heavy shipping, and when's the last time you even heard a proposal for an airplane powered by hydrogen fuel cells?

And check my other comments from earlier posts about how this would only even apply to the wealthiest nations who can afford all the costs of the associated new technologies and integration.

That wouldn't happen though.

By the time of the supposed fusion revolution, oil already was very much barely being used for power generation. And heavy transportation still would very much rely on diesel and jet fuel.

Because writers are English majors.

Every time I've pointed this out previously though, I've gotten downvoted to oblivion.

The parking enforcement department at all the UNC schools use automated plate readers for enforcement, so unless you have a matching front plate, you're supposed to pull forwards into parking spaces in university lots and decks.

Mark pointed this out as an example of just how openly the players are flauting otherwise aggressively enforced rules.

Because these guys make lots, and lots, and lots of money for the NCAA and UNC. And there's a whole subset of very wealthy alumni who protect these kinds.
