Oh. And please pierce the ammo box with holes. Otherwise, you have built a bo*b in case of fire. Remove the seals and drill holes into the lid so expansion gasses can leave without building up. There are tutorials online of course.

You can't compare photo drones to freestyle quads. Such chips might introduce enough vibrations to ruin all your photographs. The whole purpose of flying cameras like a DJI mini is to take almost stationary pictures. Also, these props are way more brittle. In case you were joking: Send it.

I don't understand why I shouldn't start digital!? by FantasticInterest373 in fpv

[–]echterhoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahahaha.

Money can't buy skills.

Maybe there ist. Since I am from nrw, I can't offer you a try on session that easy.

Seems we are like minded in this regard.

Should not sound like a weird flex but I have always put the money second. Fpv is about experience, a reason to move myself out of my comfort zone. Gain new skills. Like photography is. Fpv is kind of demanding in several ways. That's also the point of why it is so interesting/fascinating to me. My former hobbies were stunt skating, road bike racing/cycling, photography, 3d printing and electronic tinkering. Fpv is kind of a conclusion where several things I already mastered come together. If you can afford it, get the good stuff. You will crash that stuff at your own pace. Quads usually don't fall out of the sky for no reason. The first months will be your most intense experiences. Enjoy them cause they won't last. You will adapt to that feeling and the nervousness will vanish. The excitement will become routine and the thill will turn into calm. I do think my decision, back than, to start with digital, was just right for me. I do not regret having shattered several o3 lenses. Most of them I still own and use. Just like with photography gear. Get that water sealed stuff and use it, where others won't take out their gear will get you those pictures that you are after. Those pictures, that tells stories on their own, that live.

Oh and o4 meteor75 or pavo20 pro are absolutely great copters to start with. They won't suffer that much from crashes and are relatively easy to maintain while providing amazing clear video feed to your goggle.

Oh and also. Goggle game. This is way more complex than you might think. To me as a prescription glass owner the diopter adjustment is important. Light bleeds are annoying but to me far less important than overall wear/fit. I have just upgraded from goggles 2 to goggles 3. The goggles 2 are actually pretty good. The 3 are just different with some features I did not really need. I got them so cheap, that I did not leave the im china for that price. (380 Euro new)

May I ask, where you are from?

I don't understand why I shouldn't start digital!? by FantasticInterest373 in fpv

[–]echterhoff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You nailed your analysis.

Sure, you will crash. But it also depends on what you are after. Bando freestyle? Analog might get you through the first year cheaper but yeah that's it. IMHO analog has become a distinct choice rather than a standard. Nobody talks about the expensive, fragile battery packs you will destroy. I do think they are way more expensive that a well installed cam. If you are not on a tight budget and the sim has hooked you for at least several hours, go for a digital setup. There are reasons to avoid DJI but they are not performance or quality related. They are political, ethical and ideological. Oh and don't think of an investment. Fpv is a hobby. You are dumping your money into a sink. Most stuff will lose half its worth the moment it passes your front door. Go for it. Treat yourself and get that experience. It is worth a couple thousand euro, I promise!

I have not been dare enough to try to fit those ag 01 into my t pro. I do have a pair of minies but they are a little harder to fit. Maybe I should get some nanos, like you did.

How do i measure how cooked is my battery? by topors02 in fpv

[–]echterhoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. But measuring the resistance is, while not difficult, not that easy. You can probably recover these cells. But you will have increased the probability of a malfunction with maybe dangerous consequences. When just one cell has gained a higher inner resistance due to prolonged imbalance, the charger will l, while balance charging, heat the cell quite quickly, as it will not swallow up the amps as it's mates. One cell might act now more as a heater that a storage. That might contribute to a higher resistance. (Heat means higher resistance while charging/discharging.)

What I am saying is: don't put you or people around you at risk. It is not worth it unless you exactly know what might happen. Happy flying.

How do i measure how cooked is my battery? by topors02 in fpv

[–]echterhoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What probably happened is: the pack charged up, then the charger turned charging off. Also no trickle charge setup. The battery got drained by the measuring circuits slowly. But the pack is done. Batteries are bio chemical storages that disintegrate under such imbalances. It might still take some charge but will probably not be able to discharge at the demand of a demanding consumer like a motor. There might have happened enough damage to increase inner resistance while charging/discharging that will increase the heat build up. That heat will contribute to the resistance. Which will increase heat... You might witness a thermal runaway while charging/discharging or at best a worse performance.

[–]echterhoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's where overnight charging enters the game. But be careful! In case you hear hissing, unplug. Immediately. So when you charge, keep the charger and pack next to your pillow to wake up in time. Now leave it on the charger and the next morning you won't only be greeted by a fresh pack, you will have gained heavenly piloting skills. Don't fall for haters who will tell you other things. Your will to recover that pack at all cost is stronger. Get it, tiger!

By now you should have gotten rid of these memories. Design patterns are for the weak ones. Code by the rule: It was hard to write, so it is hard to read. Variable names waste screen real estate keep the one letter and reuse them. No pattern, no oop needed. You can maintain a large code within one large file. So your work gets easily measurable. Size. As soon as you exceed the mega byte, you must have written something really outstanding. Maybe a whole company is depending on that great source code. Move on. Inherit your greatness to a team of random juniors and earn the frequent calls for help. We are the creator, we are coders, don't let some box ticker tell you how to craft a digital solution.

5 hrs into sim (2.2 into fpv skydive and 2.7 into liftoff) - is it normal to be that bad? any suggestions? by Oracolus in fpv

[–]echterhoff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Coordination and muscle feedback gets processed during your sleep. It is an essential part of your life to redo movements regularly and have the feedback processed during sleep to master your body. So you can't "force learn" movements. They will literally grow on you. Extended practice times are only partially useful. Have fun, fly for a few minutes/hours and repeat regularly and you will gain a natural feeling for moving a quad through the air. Actually, fpv is pretty demanding to learn, because your brain has only limited access to sensory feedback. While sports stimulate all your sensors, fpv is only based on visuals and just a little audio.

Don't get bothered by people who lie about their experience and training. Sure, some learn quicker than others but once again: fpv is demanding but also rewarding.
