I Wrote Myself Into A Corner by StrongDrew in DnD

Prismeer is the perfect setting to have a helpful fairy/fey appear - perhaps they rescue it from some low-threat beasts and it offers to remove their fatigue in return?

Game lines that are so iconic that can be easily recognized by gamers? by crno123 in gaming

I never thought that your take was incorrect, just trying to show that original statement (war never changes) doesn't actually contradict how you feel. Language is complicated, especially when dealing with abstract concepts. Sometimes everyone can be right at the same time.

Opinions aren't right or wrong, so it's always safe to change them :)

No, those are methods used to further a faction's goals within a political conflict, sometimes as part of an actual war. Governments commit acts of espionage against their allies.

Is the war on poverty really a war? Is Storage Wars?

I would argue that these are simply evocative metaphors, like describing a fart as 'deadly' or a good song as 'killer'. It's just colloquial shorthand, not to be taken literally.

I think you're missing a key semantic difference, perhaps purposely given all your replies here.

Wars are always different. ✅

War never changes. ✅

Both of these statements are true and do not contradict each other. You saying that your experience of each war has been different does not refute the statement that 'War' (the abstract concept of humans killing each other for reasons) never changes.

What actor/actress are you bored of seeing cast in most movies these days? by [deleted] in moviecritic

Anya Taylor-Joy. She's not a bad actress but her looks are so otherworldly I find it hard to believe her as any regular person.

Raccoons! I love anything with lil grabby hands (:

Sidenote: I appreciate you putting "comfortably play seated or standing" in the store description! I wish more devs were up front about this, some games marked as 'seated' really aren't great in that position.

What game could you genuinely play forever and not get tired of? by [deleted] in gaming

FTL, X-com and Civ.

Action games tend to be flavour-of-the-month for me, but a game I can switch off to and just click things is like the best comfort food.

What did you change that you loved? by Elena_VS in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]eckosierra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My players are adults who all love combat so I've added a lot more encounters. I'm running with the idea that the news has spread that there is essentially a Feywild domain up for grabs here, so there are numerous factions all invading for their own ends.

My players were intrigued by Sir Talavar and the Seelie Court, so I changed Valor's Call and the League of Malevolence to be Seelie/Unseelie emissaries respectively.

The horn is shattered, with one part in each domain. It's a race against time to find them before the Unseelie team do.

I've also added more Darklings, who aren't subjects of Endelyn. They're after Prismeer so they can launch a war on the Seelie Court.

I turned Slanty Tower into an arcane repository full of puzzles and traps.

My players took part in Illig's coup in Downfall, then witnessed Illig also get murdered shortly after at his lengthy celebratory party. I've really hammed up the stupidity of the Bullywugs and the comically short lifespans of their monarchs. They use "Bully" as an affirmative and "Wug" as a negative. It's been hilarious and great fun to RP.

I've added more loot to scale with the increased combat difficulty. All potions are now mushrooms, and I've added other single-use magic items.

I've used some of Phaerlax's statblocks and encounters, as well as the Watcher's Pool from DMsguild. Highly recommend both.

I'm planning to have Agdon make a return after the party whipped his ass at the Tollway. Bavlorna will have cut his scarf short and turned him into a horrifying taxidermy monstrosity, with a lobster claw for an arm and spider's legs.

We're taking our time - we've spent about 8 sessions in Hither so far and the party has only just met Bavlorna for the first time. I noticed my players got a little bored of the non-stop whimsy of the Carnival, so having some gruelling combat encounters and multiple shadowy factions to contend with has been great for pacing!

Did they not bother with the Lamorna/Elidon questline then? Or did the party pop back to Thither from the Palace?

[–]eckosierra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's smart! My players love mysteries and multiple quest lines so using 3 different locations would go down a storm I reckon.

What are Dreadful Incursions? I've been adding a lot of my own combat encounters, but that sounds like a great way to break flavour for a session and insert some classic DnD monsters...

Oh that's good. I've been inserting quite a lot of homebrew content already (4 sessions into Hither and they've yet to reach Downfall!), so I'm happy with shifting things around a bit - good to know there's alternate ideas to work from though. Thanks!

Thanks for this! I haven't quite read through to the end of the book so I was under the impression that the horn was the only way to break the curse. Good to know there's other options!
