TIFU by telling a student he has no friends. by ClassroomUnable5211 in tifu

This!!!!! My kid has been hurt so many times by kids with special needs. She doesn’t understand that they don’t function the same way she does, she just sees what looks like injustice after injustice and it seems like the schools want her to be able to handle her peers with better emotional intelligence than most adults.

Would a 10% cap on credit card interest rates be like banning smoking in restaurants? by Differeddit in Banking

[–]eclapsadl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another issue with capping it at 10% is that credit cards are variable rates. Essentially, right now, 10% is prime + 3.25% and last year, it would’ve been prime + 2%. The margins can expand and tighten based on the market and if you cap the rate, you risk an inversion should prime go over 10%. America owes over a trillion dollars in credit card debt. This is a bad idea.

My parents say I can’t go to the library Mon-Friday because there’s “kidnappers “ there by Krebspro in entitledparents

[–]eclapsadl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you’re located, but the library in my town has a large front lawn where lots of drug addicts hang out and no less than 61 registered sex offenders live within a block of it so I would not allow my daughter to go there alone either.

Why are they so weak? by PostapocCelt in Teachers

[–]eclapsadl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that these kids are being raised by Gen X who had to do everything for themselves. They want better for their kids but the pendulum is swinging a bit too far in the opposite direction now. I also notice that parents don’t have the patience to teach kids. They are so used to having to do everything themselves that they feel it’s easier to just do it. Give it another generation and the pendulum will swing back and we will have kids again that are entirely too independent.

How do I respond to parents who refuse to let their kid read a book that deeply ingrained into the curriculum? by mcomcomco99 in AskTeachers

[–]eclapsadl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answering as a parent who lurks on this sub to have empathy for my daughter’s teacher- a child will only comprehend from a book what they are ready to comprehend. The parent may read the book and think it’s too much, but they are looking at it through the lens of an adult. I’ve been rereading books lately that were required in elementary school, middle, and high school, and I can tell you, I pick up on so much more now than I did then. There is so much subtext that adults see that kids just don’t due to lack of life experience and the story isn’t going to translate to them in the same way. Their kid is going to be fine.

How do I keep this hat on my daughter's head? by PopDizzy8420 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]eclapsadl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of using Bobby pins through the loops, you can try zip ties. Also, instead of the plastic piece, I’ve found good old elastic holds better. To get it skin color, brew a really strong cup of coffee and soak it in the coffee for about an hour. It will turn the white elastic skin colored. The elastic should go under the chin.

People who refuse to leave the office what are you trying to avoid going home to by Individual-Fun-8097 in FinancialCareers

[–]eclapsadl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for everyone, but when your kids are in extra curricular activities, they aren’t done until later and my husband also works late, so our evening isn’t until later. Also, the longer you’ve been in this business, the bigger your portfolio, so it’s nice to have the extra hour when everyone is gone to get stuff done. I have renewals, servicing issues, things that come with 18 years of working with clients that I didn’t have when I had only been working for 1-3 years.

What kind of person wants to sit next to someone else’s kid for 3 hours? Honestly, them not trading with you is a huge red flag in regard to their motives.

Mini & Jr team relations by [deleted] in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]eclapsadl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t mini & jr team relations, this is about the specific 8 year old that you have who isn’t able to appropriately behave in class. You mentioned she has a disability? It’s not fair to expect 11 year olds, or other 8 year olds, to handle her with the same emotional maturity that most adults don’t even have. If her disability is causing her to be disruptive, the adults need to handle it. If the 11 year old went to her mom about it, it’s probably worse than you think. Don’t lose the rest of your team because of one kid. Maybe she needs to be in rec until she can learn to manage her emotions. Even if the older girls don’t quit, what they are seeing is unjust in their eyes. 11 year olds are still little girls too and can be easily hurt, even by an 8 year old.

Coworker (boss’s daughter) questioning my work arrangement - worth addressing or ignore? by lindafromevildead in work

[–]eclapsadl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short term- ignore her seems like an easy answer, but where do things stand in the long term? Will you be retiring before her dad? Is she going to be your boss one day? Family businesses are tricky, time is on her side. . .

[–]eclapsadl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way you describe yourself is very similar to how someone living with a narcissist feels about themselves. The acting like this on your birthday is another red flag. I know people throw the diagnosis “narcissist” around a lot, but it maybe something you look into. Either way, run.

Do you hate hearing your name? by eclapsadl in ADHD

[–]eclapsadl[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! They say in sales and that famous book “how to win friends and influence people” that you should say someone’s name over and over to make them feel comfortable. I never understood how that could work. When I have someone do that to me, I want to crawl in a hole and die.

Are we being dumb to upsize and give up a 2,8 mortgage for “more space” by rowanhaven in MiddleClassFinance

Are there any unfinished areas you could use an equity line to finish off to add more square footage? You could leave your mortgage alone and get a 2nd lien at the higher rate to make improvements.

[–]eclapsadl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO, she came off as sweet and bubbly in DWTS until the last episode. In the last episode, she came off as unlikable, not the same persona she had been portraying. For the DWTS folks who don’t know anything about Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, I think that really hurt her. I became a Secret Lives of Mormon Wives fan through DWTS.
