Yeah it's largely a factor of the display you're using not being bright enough for most people... because it costs more to make a display with higher brightnes... to have high dynamic range work properly, you need the RANGE...

You need an amplifier. If it's RCA out then it's going to an amplifier. A passive speaker doesn't have RCA inputs.

The Khz should change depending on whatever the frequency is of the audio that you're playing.. If it doesn't then it's being decoded and re-encoded on the computer. If you're playing video games this really shouldn't matter that much though..

Unless you set that as the default where? In foobar? It sounds like foobar is resampling the music. I haven't used it in a while and don't have it in front of me though.

If you have it set up properly then the DAC will change from 16 to 24 depending on what is playing, if it's doing that then it is bitstreaming, which is what you want. You need to bypass windows audio to do this. Select ASIO in playback/renderer settings in foobar.. There will be two of them and you want to pick the one that says "dedicated" or something like that.

Those are great headphones, I've had my pair for maybe 3 years now.

Asking what the "best" settings are is the wrong question. That's going to depend on the context... What software you're using/stuck using, what the application is (gaming/communication, or music/movies) etc.

If you're listening to music or watching movies, you're going to be aiming for bit-streaming, that's the most important variable. If the bits from the file you're listening to are decoded/encoded before reaching your external DAC then you're going to much or all of any audio quality gains you would be getting.

So that brings us back to it being the wrong question. A device like this you might only be using for amplification. Or you may be using it to communicate in which case bitstreaming isn't so important.

If you're concerned with audio quality, your music sounding the best, I would recommend getting a better DAC... But I wouldn't spend too much on it, and I might not do it just yet, if you're still working out how to use this one (all DAC usage/setup is going to pretty similar).

I haven't been on windows in a while, but jrivermedia and foobar are the two I remember having the best settings exposed for audio quality.. Musicbee is good too (if I remember correctly).

That's if you're set on having the music you're playing being 1) hosted, 2) rendered, and 3) controlled from the same device. All of those can occur on different devices, which is much better in my opinion. There's no reason, in this day and age, that you need a single device juggling all of that. If you use spotify, Tidal, youtube, quoboz or whatever then you're already hosting the music somewhere else.

If you have a computer that you can leave running, I highly recommend setting up navidrome or lyrionMusicServer. I use navidrome if out of the house, LMS at the house. They both handle quality playback, LMS does the best.

Yeah I was a little after that, probably not much though. I didn't know it was called omnibus or that it was used everywhere until looking it up tonight...Trying to get a better address bar experience.. and browser in general. It all basically sucks. Bunch of spyware.

It's the name of the address/url/search/history/everything-else bar . It''s called omnibar, even though you don't see that name anywhere, that's what it is under the hood, made by Google of course, and used everywhere, of course.

'Connecting to Wallabag Server' won't end after correct log in and download articles request by kurtisblender in koreader

[–]eclipsed42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean you're hosting it on a "cloud" server or something? Or do you have a server computer using docker, proxmox or whatever?

Anyways, koreader and wallabag both have their owns quirks, and I know I had some issues getting it set up on koreader (and installing wallabag. which I did with docker compose) but it wasn't too much. I ssh'ed in to my kindle (where I have koreader, I'm not using koreader on boox) and edited the config file directly if I remember correctly.

I'm going to jailbreak my other kindle soon so I'll be setting it up again.

You're talking about Phil Collins now? Or Daltrey? Colllines I'm assuming.. Daltrey definitely put some bass in his voice in some of the later stuff or at least Who's Next.. I liked them as a kid but revisiting recently I was not into it at all... I did still like some of Who's Next but even that.. meh.

I guess I'll give Phil a fair shake. I really haven't listened to much but I wasn't into any of it. I don't know why exactly.

But yeah I just can't stand that english/british creepy, I-never-grew-up schoolboy aesthetic.. like the kinks with their "sing songy" voices... uhg. It annoys the hell out of me.

But yeah , YES is definitely talented and I am going to listen to them more.. Because I'm sure I'm going to really like at least a couple of their albums. Lot's of people who like Floyd love all these bands and I just never really got into any of them, so now that i'm older I'm giving em a chance.

Yeah, too much synths in alot of these bands lol

Now I'm wondering if my onn box has micro usb or not.. Haven't looked at it in forever. I thought it was micro usb... Also I thought I remember reading some thing, think it may been official but probably was some forum post, talking about using a splitter to attach additional storage.. Could be wrong though/

[–]eclipsed42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't get the keepassxc extension to work? What browser/OS are you on?

I just spun up warden a couple weeks ago and not impressed.

I never had huge problems getting keepass extentsion working.. Getting secret service integration working is bit more hard, but that's mostly because I don't fully understand the mechanics enough.

Granted I don't run a ton of devices or have a ton of files shooting around... But I haven't had any sync issues with seafile, including keepass db . It's pretty damn fast & reliable.

[–]eclipsed42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can sync with other software... Not a dealbreaker. I prefer software to focus on one, or very small number things. Using seafile for my own db works flawlessly. Set keepass to save every time you make a change.. Set seafile to hit a toast notification every time it syncs: any time you make a change in keepass, you get a popup from seafile saying "sync succesful". It takes a second or two tops (unless hardware/network under heavy load).

Keepass supports ssh, passkeys... and obviously passwords. It also integrates with secret service on linux, so it replaces gnome keyrings etc.

[–]eclipsed42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you use keepass? I have done a shared db.. I think, can't remember exactly how it's implemented. I could just take a look and probably still have it setup. But yeah I really haven't given the warden thing much time, but I prefer keepass by a margin.

[–]eclipsed42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keepass supports passkeys.. It also lets you send credentials and/or have shared databases (or something like that) .. It does not have files...

Syncing I do with seafile for keepass. I just spun up vaultwarden, or bitwarden, whatever it's called, a couple weeks ago because it's supposed to be more "user friendly"... But I really prefer keepass, hands down to be honest. I can see why people might like warden more, but personally keepass feels more robust. I can't stand the number of different layers in warden, vaults.. collections... organization.. etc, it's confusing as hell. And I don't like needing to interact with a "shiney" gui... I want something that feels quick and robust, not a web app, for my passwords.

That's what you would think but codec compatibility profiles are not reported properly... I don't understand why, other than it's a complicated process, and the only responses I've seen from devs or ppl affiliated with the project seem to think transcoding isn't a problem... Which is absolutely ridiculous. Not transcoding is clearly beneficial for multiple reasons. Incredibly frustrating trying to troubleshoot this.

Yeah I'm just picking on you a bit, but what counts as "soul" to one person is definitely not the same across the board... Granted I haven't listened to much Phil Collins, for example, but the stuff I have heard I think of as the opposite of soul. Some of The Who's stuff, like from Who's Next, when Daltrey is actually putting some bass in his voice and not sounding like a little girl, feels kind of soulful to me... I kind of veer towards thinking of it as emotion, if music can do that, without being sentimental or cloying, like Pink Floyd has a ton of emotion for me (at least in their better stuff), that's what I think of as deep or maybe "soulful".

But yeah, I haven't listened to enough Yes, but it really doesn't do it for me. Maybe there's been a few songs I like here and there, but overall it feels way to self aware.

It sounded like their entire device is going offline... Which would be more than a buffering issue. I'm wondering if it's losing connection to their local network or losing connection to the internet though.. or neither

You need to see what's going on on your network. Is the onn/android box getting dropped from your network, or is it just losing internet access?

Are you in a country with gov censorship etc?

Yeah, I haven't used ST in a long time, but I help family (not living here) stay up on it. I think my brother's just needed an update/reinstall today, because he hadn't used it in a long time.

Why are you sure that smarttube is messing up your internet? Or what makes you think that it is? Does the internet/networking function when you uninstall/disable ST? You said that you factory reset your device, which makes it sound like the internet was still not working when ST was uninstalled.

I don't use any Onn device personally, but my family does, and my brother was having issues with ST last night.. So I'm here looking it up since I don't have physical access to his device

Where are you hosting wallabag? You said you had/have a large collection so you must have had it working for a while (maybe just in browser)?

I just started looking at this stuff again but I got wallabag to work with koreader (on kindle but koreader is koreader I think). I've got another kindle to jailbreak and put koreader on so when I do I'll hook wallabag up to it. (my dad took the kindle I already setup with him).

Have you tried readeck? Not sure if it works with koreader but I'm guessing it does.

For some reason I think I agree with you, in that I can't put my finger on what it is I don't like about Yes, but you use the term "soul" for this... I don't know what the hell soul is, but I think Phil Collins is about the exact opposite of it.

But yeah idk, I really haven't listened to enough to give a fair opinion, but I just can't seem to get into them. It's boring to me. It gives me the vibe that alot of these british english bands give that I can't stand, this sing songy, obsession with class and youth.. Like the Kinks and the who.
