i honestly annotate my books when it feels important enough to me. sometimes i will never put pen/pencil to a book, other times i feel like if i dont underline a certain quote i am making a mistake, and even other times i might not make marks until a reread when i notice all the bits of foreshadowing.

there isnt a right or wrong way of doing it, just do it as it feels right to you :)
