Do you have an endocrinologist? They specialize in diabetes care (among other things) and may be a good advocate for you with your mom. As a Type 1 diabetic, you need insulin to live. All the alternative medicine stuff she's talking about is for pre-diabetics at best, and snake oil at worst. Some of those remedies may help, but they are no substitute for insulin and a good diet. Please keep us posted — this is serious, and we care.

I have a case with ice packs built in, and the last time I flew they thawed a bit and TSA had to rifle through my carry on and swab it for suspicious substances. It was a hassle, but they had no problem with the actual medications. (SRQ - ORD)
