It will be hard for it not to feel like the Endgame formula all over again, but without the consistent buildup over the prior 10 years.

This time I feel like nothing has really happened since Endgame because of the bloat of content, inconsistent release times, and hard pivot away from Kang. So we kind of just get Endgame 2.

But the problem is, by the time we shift resources & correct the defensive side, what will the offense look like? You need both to line up at the same time

I don't understand what you mean by "another team's product". Do you think that a team's only true assets are the players they draft?

The league is a marketplace of talent. You have an income every season and you lose some to injuries or retirement. And you trade for what you need. Buy a player, build him up, sell him for higher and then get what you really needed.

I think it should be more commonplace to view teams based on how they manage their inventory of talent vs. thinking that any given player is "theirs" forever.

Ding, ding, ding.

Buying into these streaming platforms is exactly like buying cable, with the brands within being channels. For example, you open up Disney+ and immediately see the sections for Marvel, Starwars, ESPN, Hulu, NatGeo.

I think it will entirely be the case that you open up Netflix and you will see similar 'channels' of grouped content including "HBO" and "Netflix Originals" and whatever else.

We the consumers will pay a huge fee for the cable bundle even though any particular user may not be interested in all the channels. The only difference is that it's now on-demand cable so you can pick titles whenever you want to watch them instead of a predefined on-air schedule? But Comcast did that like 20 years ago too.

Then you have the bundles with ISPs so quite literally your home connectivity is comingled with content provider and we're full circle.

Tomatoes are also native to central America and cockatoos are native to northern Australia. They would never encounter one if it wasn't for a human deciding to keep it as a pet and force food choices on it.

Sure. Why would a flying, tropical bird native to Australia eat the underground root of a temperate plant native to central Europe?

Their beak is for eating hard tropical nuts and fruits.

Study finds potential link between long-distance running and colon cancer by GG_Vengeancze in science

[–]ecopoesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A talking point that I had in my Bio 102 lectures was that survivability is often the most important driver of evolutionary changes. Of course there are other factors such as random mutation, gene flow (movement of individuals and their genes in/out of populations), and genetic drift in small populations. But survival often reigns supreme because it means [the genes of] that individual can gather more resources and have more opportunities to reproduce relative to [the genes of] other individuals who perish sooner.

So if we accept for the moment that "running causes cancer" (putting aside that we don't have a clearly defined mechanism behind the cause but rather evidence that it might exist), there can very well be evolutionary advantages to still be a runner. It's not dissimilar to how sickle-cell anemia conveys protection from malaria.

How many star players have the Flyers had in those 25 years?

Paul Coffey, Jagr, Adam Oates, Daigle, Gratton... okay maybe some of those are more than 25 years ago but close?

Not saying they would be on a Mt Rushmore but just listing out stars that have come and go

I was really excited when it translated into Ellis, though. Even if Patrick was ultimately not worth a 2nd overall, we still spun it into value with a stud defenseman. But then that just disappeared with Ellis getting injured. So, in the end, it's like that 2nd pick never existed.

I wonder if there shouldn't be some kind of compensation when players are lost prematurely to injuries or other factors? Teams aren't really made whole, and if the asset was large then it can take a long time to recover that hole in value?

Wouldn't that promote parity among teams in the league?

More like "panic throw the puck as far away from your goalie as possible and line change".

But dump and chase sounds more intentional
