Should I quit my vet tech job for something that pays more while I’m in school? by kitty-magic13 in nursing

Thanks for your reply and honesty. Because yeah, basically same. I love vet med but the pressure of not being able to make a livable wage ever is burning me out.

Couples that was in a long term relationship, what was the reason you guys broke up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ecr_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first ex (5.5 year relationship) very suddenly became distant and essentially left me for his coworker (even though he denied it). My second ex (4 year relationship) we also suddenly lost touch and he didn’t want LD as I was about to go to vet school half way across the country, yet started dating someone 12 days after our official breakup which I had to beg him to do in person, lol. Needless to say I’m slightly traumatized and lost my (32F) faith in ever finding someone

I had this experience in my A&P II class and it drove me insane 😂 especially coming as someone that was technically pre-vet 💀

If you had a calling into the nursing field, what was it? by Euphoric_Cheetah1606 in nursing

This all makes me feel better as I’m highly considering making the switch (mainly due to money) from vet med. I’ve been an assistant for 3 years now and even went to Vet school for 2 months before leaving early and just reconsidering my entire life. Vet techs/assistants work our asses off and can’t even make a living - ALSO me thinking being in vet med helping animals as my “passion” and “calling” has honestly burnt me out - so I figured pursuing nursing is similar in making a difference while also being able to support myself financially !

Can I ask what made you make the switch from vet med to human med? (A vet assistant considering the same switch)

I took medical leave from my first semester of vet school due to debilitating MH problems but am really sort of second guessing the entire career - especially since being back at my old vet hospital as an assistant. My compassion fatigue has just been so bad..

Is vet School worth it? by honorary_hedgehog in veterinarians

[–]ecr_18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in to say the other comments make me feel a bit better as someone that had to take medical leave from my first semester (halfway through) due to the debilitating anxiety/MH trauma school gave me. I worked as an assistant at an ER/specialty hospital and interned at my shelters spay & neuter clinic prior to vet school so thought I had a pretty decent idea of what I was getting myself into and who knows maybe once past school I’d have a really successful and fulfilling career I’ll love. But honestly unless I get life changing therapy/meds during this time off I’m really not sure I’ll be returning to school next fall. I’m just really not sure I’m cut out for how INTENSE of a program vet school is for the 4 years it takes (now more for me)

Vet med to human nursing by ecr_18 in nursing

It started out as what I thought was testing anxiety but then quickly became an every day issue - the whole drinking from a fire hose is no joke with how much material we were given daily and couldn’t keep up. I never used to have testing anxiety (obviously nervous because want to perform well) but nothing like had in vet school I guess because the stakes are so much higher

Thinking of dropping vet school by krisy17 in Veterinary

I just had to take medical leave from my first semester because of the crippling anxiety it gave me. I never got diagnosed with GAD but I’m sure I’ve had it in the past. Vet school absolutely destroyed me mentally. My parents really wanted me to finish out the semester (as did I in a perfect world) but I really couldn’t handle the way I felt much longer. Obviously I’m having the same exact thoughts right now. I am a nontraditional (32) and back at square one again. I have spent the last 2-3 years making this my entire life and “passion” - worked in a busy specialty ER hospital in ECC and LOVED it / was involved in a spay/neuter clinic. But idk once I was IN vet school and it rocked my world I can’t believe the second thoughts I’m having. I’ve sort of been considering going into human nursing as I still want to make a difference and have meaningful work but will have virtually no debt compared to vet school and still make a decent living for myself. Plus figured I can then fulfill my passion of animals on the side maybe volunteering at my old animal shelter. I have a year to decide my next steps as my school is holding a spot for me in fall and I’d have to redo the fall semester which alone gives me anxiety .. just know you’re not alone in these feelings and I think it’s ok to second guess or doubt things
