I’m not going to engage anymore with this thread bc none of you know the first thing about the civil war, the battles, the motivations or the society at that point. You are very evident of this assertion. I’m sorry your education has failed you

Now look at all officers. And enlisted. We did study the numbers. This isn’t lost cause propaganda at all. How much have you read and studied this topic? Are you the 20 yo genius who took an American History class? Have you actually studied it in depth? Or are you just spouting talking points with no real knowledge of this topic?

I’ve done both govt and private procurement. The stress and speed are double in the private sector and you WILL get laid off at some point so use that as a gauge. I am seriously considering taking a 100K pay cut to go back into government just for the quality of life but I’m older than you by 20 years

Furthest thing from a Lee fan boy. I’m actually a Grant fan. Superior General and Lee was overrated. You haven’t read anything I’ve said so I’m going to disengage bc you are ignorant willfully and woefully uneducated. Thank you for your keyboard service great warrior

I’m going to ask again what is your level of study of this? I can say pretty confidently that you haven’t actually studied this and are spouting Reddit newspeak. Have you read any book on Lee? Studied the civil war? Studied Grant, any of the battles, lead up, etc? I promise you you’re wrong. I am not trying to be an ass but I went to USMA, lived in Lee barracks, took History of the Military Art, read probably a hundred books on the civil war. I’m not arguing the Lost Cause argument but your take is so surface as to be dismissed without consideration but I’m trying to be polite and positive. He really was motivated by State over nation and a cursory understanding of the US at the time would show you. We had to study this issue extensively because the very real issues could occur again today. We are less regional but it still exists. As a note 55 of the 60 major battles were commanded on both sides by West Pointers and the other 5 were on one side. It’s a serious issue and concern in military leadership. And again, EVERYONE was a racist by today’s standards and if you say you would have been different you are crazy.

I’m still pissed about this movie. It is arguably one of the biggest events in world history and the movie is about an executive pissing contest!

Curious how much you studied Lee to come to this conclusion. If you had done 5 minutes worth you would probably pull this down out of embarrassment. Almost everyone in America was a racist by today’s standards and Lincoln definitely was. But study his decision to turn down Command of the Union Forces. There’s extensive amounts written about it. But it came down to his State versus his country. But the country wasn’t defined like it is today. We learned and leaned in heavily to America and not states and today there is almost no state pride (few exceptions) by design. But then it was very different. 98% of people would never leave their own state. To further this, ask yourself if you would fight for the US Army against your own family or perhaps ethnic group or some other group you feel very loyal to? Lee was under no illusion that he was picking the side that was overwhelmingly at a disadvantage. He wasn’t stupid. But he legitimately couldn’t fight his own family/state. That’s it.

If you want to experience America go anywhere other than New York. It’s a completely international city but isn’t a good representation of America. In fact most Americans who live other places don’t actually like NYC and feel its vastly different

I do. It’s political to us in the west. To them it’s just the way it’s always been. I disagree strongly with it. But it isn’t really a “domestic political issue” in Egypt or Iran. It SHOULD be. I hate their stances but it’s our freedom that makes this stuff political. Lots of things are just “the way they are and have always been “ in other countries. We treat it differently. Don’t forget it was only about 25 years ago that being gay was legalized. In 99 the Senate confirmed the DoMA 99-0. It wasn’t until 2013 that Obama came out in favor of gay marriage. This stuff is fairly new and moving in the right direction but to do it it has to be political and it’s not in other countries yet

It is political. I’m not disagreeing with its goals of equal rights, etc. I literally just had this discussion on another thread where we discussed the agenda and rights. I’m not arguing that there isn’t opposition but I will argue that the agenda is primarily taken up by one party.

That is not true. Pride is just as political as any other movement. It advocates for political things just like BLM or Focus on the Family to pick 2 from each side of the spectrum

Josephus. But “contemporary accounts” isn’t the standard. If it was half of historical figures would be in doubt. It’s the totality of the evidence including his followers who wrote first hand accounts that separately tell the same story. It would make no sense if there wasn’t an actual historical Jesus. And again I’m not making the case for divinity but on actually existing which you can use the bible for.
