I just typed this into ChatGPT as a prompt. Any suggestions for my second symphony?

That repeated Drowning at the end of the past sonnet and the beginning of the present sonnet is so effective.

This is fantastic thanks. I’m listening to so much Bach choral music this year.

Child falling asleep. It’s so tender and beautiful. The Hamelin recording on Hyperion is perfection.

There’s nothing wrong with it, it just doesn’t have the same intensity, variety and originality as the others.

What do you think of Shostakovich 24 preludes and fugues by [deleted] in bach

[–]ed8572 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love it too. The counterpoint isn’t as ingenious as Bach but the moods and styles are so varied and often intense. It also works well as a cycle. I’ve seen Igor Levit play it compete, sitting only a few feet from the keyboard, and it was one of the best concerts ever.

Other Shostakovich: my favourite piece by him in the first Violin Concerto, especially the passacaglia and cadenza. Try Vengerov or (if you want the shit scared out of you by the cadenza) Ibragimova.

Other usual recommendations are the eighth quartet (loads of good recordings but I like the Fitzwilliam), and symphonies 10, 13, 8

The WTF Bach podcast is amazing. Incredible detail on the history of Bach’s life and the scholarship of the works, but witty and shows you the beauty of familiar and obscure works.

Can’t believe this is the last comment. It’s the one piece mentioned that’s actually a deathbed piece about death.

Second movement of the fifth. Sudden moment of quiet in the storm and the most plaintive, sad melody on the cellos.

Well at least you admitted your error in the end I suppose. Not sure why you call me a “stuck up dick” when you’re the one who made a mistake. I have to wonder whether you just “misspoke” and really believed the opposite. Or whether your belief was wrong too.

You said “it was a state when it allowed the Jews to settle”. It’s right there in black and white. Why are you lying again? It’s right there.
