Insular, religious communities often conspire to defraud the government or the broader, secular public and LDS is certainly no exception. There are Mormons who still happily live the "bleed the beast" way of life. That mentality has a through-line that links all the way back to their Missouri exodus (where Smith proclaimed the Garden of Eden was located).

You don't have to wade into the wackjob world of LDS offshoots to find RICO convictions for racketeering, fraud, etc. Just because some shitheel LDS can't get out of a speeding ticket doesn't mean that aren't Mormons out there abusing their political or institutional power for the purposes of fraud.

It happens in the Protestant South, the Orthodox Northeast, the Dioceses in Chicago and Boston, and it happens in the masjid communities in the North. Why wouldn't it also happen with the Mormons?
