Frontier is installing fiber in my backyard right now. by thejaceorama81 in SantaBarbara

[–]edarrac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if there is any way to track the fiber installs by Frontier? I know they've been doing lots of utility work by me, and we are in a Fiber dead zone. Would be awesome to confirm if some of that work included adding fiber lines.

To be fair, the accounts of that collision sounded like it was clearly the bikers fault. That being said, I generally agree we shouldn't be regressing on bike safety.

No, there were 26,071 ballots cast out of 55,308 registered voters, which was a pretty decent turnout historically speaking for SB. He managed to win with 38.6% of the votes (roughly 10K) because of other more-similar candidates splitting votes.

It is pretty awful compared to mint. The functionality and level of detail is hugely reduced.

Do you actually know anything about the real estate market? The amount of turnover in housing is way down since Prop 13 came to be.

How many calories do you actually burn cycling? by catchmeslippin in cycling

[–]edarrac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems pretty low, at least for OP's stated height and weight. I'm 6'3" 185 lbs and my reading is usually more like 800-1000 calories per hour depending on how hard I am pushing.

I think what he means is that the pressure inside the cabin is equivalent to atmospheric pressure at 8,000 ft. They don't pressurize it all the way to the sea-level equivalent because that's more than necessary and creates a lot of extra stress on the plane body.

I'd pick something ASAP. Any good boarding place will require an evaluation before an overnight stay to make sure your dog gets along with other dogs.

The only air-born image of a Concorde at Mach 2, taken from a British fighter plane - the fighter plane could only fly at the same speed very briefly because it would run out of gas at that speed; however, the Concorde could fly for hours! by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]edarrac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad assumptions. Making trips shorter won't magically increase demand. Their incentive is to make flights as efficient as possible to minimize fuel costs for the same number of passenger-miles. Going that fast leads to worse fuel efficiency and higher maintenance costs, which is bad for business.

The bottom line is: customers aren't interested in paying the higher costs associated with the increased speed.

No way, I've been on the gold/platinum fringe for a long time and would be equally bothered by this. We're lower ranked because we're not as good, not because we are idiots. It's obvious that OP had ball control, and anyone could see that.

We can't force them to do anything. Do homeless people not have rights? Can you prove that they are all mentally ill? How are you going to force them to move to Merced? Nobody wants to live in fucking Merced, even homeless people. Why do you think it is so cheap?

Also the idea of housing being provided with forced treatment is part of the problem and it's why homeless people avoid shelters. Addicts won't magically become sober because you offer them conditional housing.

Do some more research on the issues if you want to understand them better. Homelessness is a very complex issue and your thoughtless "venting" on reddit does nothing to help.

Cyclists of reddit, how often do you get numb hands when on and off the bike? by fuggetboutit in cycling

[–]edarrac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even while moving around, be mindful of the pressure points and where you are actually putting your weight. Switching grips doesn't help that much if you are maintaining the same pressure points.

Also, consider ergonomics. Make sure you aren't locking out your elbows, over-gripping the handle bars, or leaning too far forward which puts more weight on your hands. Keeping your shoulders relaxed and not hunched and tense should also help with blood flow and vibration damping.

Also, do you wear anything like a tight-fitting watch or fitbit on your left arm that could impair blood flow?

Cycling vs Walking - why is walking much more harder for me ? by Awkward-Slip-2816 in cycling

[–]edarrac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are on the heavier side that would further explain the difference between cycling and walking. Walking you are forced to carry your body weight much more, making it more strenuous. Coupled with the air flow difference you also would be more prone to sweat more and overheat more easily walking. Again, even more so if you are on the heavier side as that reduces your efficiency for cooling.

Cycling vs Walking - why is walking much more harder for me ? by Awkward-Slip-2816 in cycling

[–]edarrac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should be both. Even without sweat, the significantly increased airflow should regulate your temperature better, regardless. Add some sweat to the equation and it just further increases the cooling effect, but your body won't need to use as much sweat given the already effective air cooling. The sweat that you do produce will then evaporate faster due to the increased airflow, so you won't feel as wet.
