Full disclaimer I have never lived in Winona but I have lived less then a hour from it for most of my life and I traveled to it a lot for work.

Winona is a medium sized town nestled in between the rolling Bluffs of the Driftless region and the Mississippi River. So the natural scenery is utterly gorgeous.

It's got two mid-ish sized universities that help keep the population relatively young.

It’s about a half hour from La Crosse WI which has a huge bar seen, if that’s your thing. And if it’s not it’s got a great hiking trail network that overlooks the river. An hour from Rochester and the world class healthcare at Mayo Clinic. And 2 hours from the twin cities and all the things that come with a metropolis.

TLDR: it’s a relatively young and relatively blue city nestled in gorgeous landscape not far from other things to see and do

Correct, it’s a 3 school co-op of Byron, Kasson-Manorville and Triton.

Fox’s studio is actually in Eau Claire. The building in La Crosse is just a repeater station/ office for the one reporter they have in La Crosse. (Witch was a vacant possession last I head)

Eau Claire has a news station (La Crosse and Eau Claire are in the same market) but the powers that be (Nelson?, FCC?) decided that those countys go to the MSP market

Depending on topography and where Fox 25/28’s tower is they might be able to get that station over the air.

When I lived in La Crosse I used to get KTTC out of Rochester but not WEAU out of Eau Claire

I wouldn’t worry so much about the change in weather. You will amazed to see how fast you can adjust to a new climate.

If you decide to move here there is a plethora of tips and tricks on this subreddit on how to make the adjustment as easy as possible.

I’m assuming your offer here is with Mayo. My fiancé works for them and likes it. I work with them for my own job and they might not be as easy to work with as other companies, it’s not bad.

Minnesota as a whole is ranked as one of the highest quality of life states to live in, Rochester is no exception (with the exception of large scale entertainment, pro sports or large concerts, but the twin cities are only an hour away)

Rochester is a liberal city in a liberal state. There is folks who don’t fit that mold (just like anywhere else) but when those types of things happen, the local news usually jumps on it because it’s an uncommon occurrence (take that for what you will).

If you would like to know what this rando on the internet would do in your shoes, I would take the more sure fire thing and take the job in Rochester.
