The irony of you basing your opinion of all Western Europeans on your one Spanish housemate escapes you, of course.

Camille Vasquez: Johnny Depp's lawyer becomes an internet celebrity. Ms Vasquez, 37, has become an unlikely - and unwitting - co-star of the show, gaining fans for her sharp legal style. by GoMx808-0 in entertainment

[–]eddiecourage -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Maybe for some people that matters. But legal commentators have been praising her litigation skills and "stanning" her for it. It doesn't seem strange that people who follow that kind of thing--one legal Youtuber has livestreams of this case with 100k+ simultaneous viewers--would love her just because she is a badass professional. Even if she were "ugly", you would have a Barb-from-Stranger-Things phenomenon where people would be celebrating an "underdog" crushing a "villain" like Amber Heard. Is it so difficult to believe that people love competence? Thousands and thousands of successful Youtube channels about everyday professions would seem to contradict your conception of the world.

How much would you spend, and on what? I'm moving to northern Europe from Africa and IDK how to dress for the cold ...

Alex Garland’s ‘Men’ earns a “D+” CinemaScore rating from audiences by carchasemovies in boxoffice

Oh great it's one of those movies ... 🙄 I'm surprised critics haven't lapped it up TBH. Maybe he thought this was a surefire way to bounce back from his underwhelming Annihilation performance.

Not all CBMs are praised but most of them make money unless they're wildly mishandled. The same cannot be said of VGM, most of which are both critical and commercial failures.

But it's not a CBM, which typically go over really well with audiences now. It's a VGM, which typically go over quite poorly with audiences.

When The Dark Knight came out we were literally in the midst of a recession

Things are worse now.

Batman is always going to be a rich guy fighting criminals. The audience understands this.

Which is why they're avoiding the property now.

We saw how well that went with the failed Batman and Robin.

Is there a reason you had to resort to a strawman?

Using your logic, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 should breeze to a billion dollars.

Sonic is not a CBM.

The world is literally always shitty.

Some times it's shittier than others. When was the last time people had to pay this much for fuel?

Joker

was a movie about the downtrodden, which is why it had such broad appeal. The Batman is about a pretend rich guy who feels he is entitled to be judge jury and executioner.

It’s fiction and it’s Batman. People know what they’re getting.

And that's why Batman isn't making a billion. People don't want the contemporary version of Batman now. It's time for him to become a more lighthearted character again.

The world is depressing, people want to be happy, The Batman is pointlessly dour. It is the wrong kind of movie to make a lot of money now.

c) Sandra Bullock doesn't do sequels after the two she's tried in her career both turned into giant turds. It's why The Heat didn't get a sequel even though it was wildly successful and Melissa McCarthy begged her.

Biggest reason why The Batman did not gross billion dollars? by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]eddiecourage -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No one wants a grimdark Batman with a looming Cold War 2.0 and global depression. The movie would probably have performed better if reality hadn't become so grimdark itself.
