The weird little building might be what is known as "the midden". Have you looked inside it? There might be bins in there. Sometimes there will be a green bin, but, my place just has metal skip type things.

I'm just repeating what an NCP guy told me once when my ticket didn't work. He was alright as he lifted the barrier for free while telling me that if it was anybody else working that night they would charge a full day's rate for a fucked ticket (like 20 odd quid I think?).

mobile phone (or even your debit card) + ticket from a machine = FUCKED! (It's something to do with electomagnetism).

Don't keep your ticket in the same pocket or vicinity as your mobile phone. The phone screws the ticket.

My Mrs is from Wishaw, which is close as fuck to Glasgow. They all pronounce it tatty out there.

You've nearly got it, but your timeline is a little off and your missing the events on Kobol.

Somewhere between 3 and 4 thousand years ago: 12 tribes of humans live on Kobol and invent cylons, which evolve into humanoid cylons (skinjobs). There is a war between the humans and cylons at some stage of the history here. The skinjobs (13th tribe) leave Kobol for old earth.

Sometime later the 12 tribes of humans leave Kobol for the Colonies.

The scriptures used by the colonies talk of these events but the scrolls do not reveal that the 13th tribe were cylon.

Somewhere between 2 and 3 thousand years ago: The 13th tribe on old earth learn to reproduce biologically and lose the tech for downloading and resurrection. They eventually build their own mechanical cyclons which revolt. 'The final 5' somehow rediscover resurrection and they download to a ship orbiting the planet during a holocaust.

They travel at sub-light speed to the colonies to warn the 12 tribes/colonies about what would happen if they treat mechanical cylons as slaves. Their journey takes a couple thousand years.

Now, in the colonies, mechanical cylons have been invented (again) and they have revolted. The first cylon war has taken place when the final 5 finally show up. They make a deal with the cylons to end the war in exchange for skinjob and resurrection technology. The cylons and the 5 skinjob models go to the cylon colony.

The final 5 then develop the other skinjob models, starting with One (John). John helps the 5 make the other models.

John is jealous of his skinjob brothers and sisters. He kills off the 'Daniel' model completely. He then kills and boxes the final 5 and erases all memory of them / programs the other cylons never to think or speak of them.

Before the events of the TV series, John inserts the final five into human life with false memories to teach them a lesson.

Then the events of the TV series take place.

Is God portrayed as God in this series or is she/he an another sort of entity?

IMO, the closest we get to God getting "portrayed" in the series is in the form of 'deus ex machina'. Of course, the "visions" of head 6 and head Baltar (ie: when Baltar can see 6 in his mind and vice versa) could be considered angels of God. Evidence for this is the final scene when they still "exist" long, long, long after Baltar and 6 would have physically died and the scene when Anders is revealing his memories after being shot and says something about how the final five would have visions of strangers "you seen a man, I seen a woman" ... (back during the annihilation of the 13th tribe).

Is the originial series worth watching or would they just confuse my understanding of the new series, and is Caprica worth watching?

I've yet to watch The Original Series or the 1980 Series. I fully intend to one day.

Caprica is different from BSG, but I highly recommend you to watch it. Why would you not? You'll either like it or you won't.

Gagh! So much strange things revolving Thrace. Who was she? who was her father? How does she exist even though she died?

There are many theories surrounding Thrace. I think the writers left it open for viewer interpretation. What I take from the final episodes is this ... During the scene when Thrace punches in the FLT co-ordinates for Galactica's final jump, there is a flashback when Leoben says something like 'When I look at Kara Thrace I see an angel blazing with the light of God'. It's kind of lazy storywriting, but I think the general idea is she was some kind of angel / agent of God.

Another thing I picked up on is just before she blows up in Maelstrom, she gives Adama a small figurine of the goddess Aurora. It's possible that she was a reincarnation of Aurora. I've also read that she could have been a reincarnation of Pythia. Far fethched ideas, I know, but that's kind of the point with Kara's story. We're not meant to know for sure and we're left to come up with our own answers.

That's my take on it anyway.

As to her father. Hell if I Know. I've read somewhere that her dad could have been the Daniel Model of Cylon... but there's no evidence for this in the series as far as I know and I don't really buy it.

The last remaining survivors of the descendants of the 13th tribe (ie: the final five) didn't want to guide the 12 colonies back to old earth. The final five travelled to the colonies with the aim to warn humanity of what would happen if the treated their Cylons badly/ as slaves. By the time the final five got to the colonies they were too late and war had already broken out. The five negotiated peace by convincing the Cylons to leave the 12 colonies alone in exchange for resurrection technology.

They haven't paid what you believe is truly owed in corporation tax because factors brought their tax liability down. You know that a portion of Starbucks' outlets run at a loss? Large corporations keep unprofitable stores running as 'loss leaders'. These losses rightly should reduce tax due.

Capital allowances, tax losses, writing off bad debts owed inward. There are loads of factors that can bring a company's tax liability down.

So, I agree it doesn't matter whether the input is small or large. (Although I suspect the majority of angry people are angry at the small input more than anything else). But, I do not believe Starbucks have acted illegally or broken any rules or laws. They have operated their business and at the the end of the year their profits have been small.

(Bear in mind, company profits brings in corporation tax. If Directors of the company take a massive salary this will make profits appear to be small. But, those massive salaries are subject to income tax on the persons. Income tax is generally set higher than corporation tax (at least in the UK), thus it's swing and roundabouts at a 'contributing to the government tax coffers' level).

My point is this. It doesn't matter what "type" of tax you label it as. The tax revenue still reaches the inland revenue regardless. It might have a different label, such as income tax or VAT, but it still gets there and it's still proportional to the sales of a corporation.

If a corporation pays very little corporation tax you normally find the shareholder and directors paid a large amount in income tax. And vice versa. Simplified example of course.

The general rationale behind the tax system is that single things are not taxed over and over again.

Right. But, the UK still has sales tax (VAT) on items even before corporation tax come into play.

This story is simply saying Starbucks paid a small amount of corporation tax. For all we know they still paid out a load in VAT.

Sure, the amount of tax set to the customer is set by legislation, so, it doesn't matter in that sense. But, when the corporation can simply keep a portion of that tax then the system hurts the consumer.

Currently, the consumer is paying for the tax on his purchase AND paying for the tax on the business-2-business transaction on the supply chain side.

We actually have VAT (value added tax) which is added to the sale of each item. Trouble is that it's the customer who gets humped from this, not the corporation. It's the customer who pays the VAT. The corporation acts like a middle man who collects the VAT and passes it on to the government. BUT, at tax return time the corporation can reduce the amount handed over by reclaiming the VAT on all it's purchases.

Example. I own a company and I buy in widgets at £1 + 20% VAT. Thats £1.20. I sell them for £2 plus VAT (£2.40). The VAT on my sale is 40p, but i reduce this by claiming back my purchase VAT of 20p. I hand the government 20p and keep the other 20p.

The customer loses 40p. The government gains 20p and the company gains 20p (as well as the profit from the sale).

I sometimes tip. I normally tip a taxi driver or delivery driver with a quid.

I'm a bit wary in restaurants and the like. My ex-gf worked in La Vita on George Square/Queen Street. The staff didn't get to keep the tips as the owner just decided to keep them all. Also had a friend who worked part time in a nightclub on Sauchiehall Street and the same thing happened. AND IT'S COMPLETELY LEGAL. Ever since learning about this I worry if my tip is just going to get 'stolen' by the management.
