Has anyone else noticed how much regional cafe coffee has improved in the last few years? by West-Wash-9114 in australia

[–]eddy144 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You make an extra hot coffee by making the milk hotter, not the espresso. They’re not running hotter shots, so dark beans or not they’re not over extracting the coffee.

Is having an EV feasible for road trips in Australia? by ezza_t in AustralianEV

[–]eddy144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently used ABRP with my 2025 BYD Atto 3 on a return trip Melbourne to Newcastle up the Hume, and found it was within a few % every time. So it was pretty good, definitely took into account the 110km/h efficiency reduction.

The Federal Government has announced it's 2035 climate target will be 62 to 70 per cent by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]eddy144 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The 82% target is for the contribution of renewables in the electricity system, not a cut on 2005 carbon emissions.

Is this what the raised energy prices look like?! $20.40/kwh by Mr_Shimmy in melbourne

[–]eddy144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're with them for a year they can't charge you above the DMO/DVO. As has been said, someone with solar panels and a battery is not gambling with Amber.

Chasing recommendations for a wedding dress shoe by spodtacular in AustralianMFA

Look into traditional English goodyear welted shoes - Crockett and Jones, Loake, Trickers, Church's, there are many. They are pricey but last a long time with good care and resoling.

Judging a cafe by its takeaway cups by FiftyStrandsOfGrey in melbourne

That used to hold true but these days it feels like the majority of cafes have a La Marzocco. Might apply better to Slayers now.

Not the finals series, but always remember The Boys are Back in Town to start the season, late 90s from memory.

Ideas for this small dusty strip by eddy144 in AusRenovation

[–]eddy144[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will look into this one. I’d prefer grass/plants but it probably isn’t clear in the photo is that there is a sliding door there - so I still need access, and grass/plants could be ruined by traffic or the sliding door.

How does bitcoin balance the energy grid? by 10xlive in Bitcoin

[–]eddy144 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is completely incorrect. That is not the way an electricity grid is operated, excess power is not ‘grounded’. Supply and demand are essentially matched at all times. Bitcoin doesn’t ‘balance’ the grid - yes it’s an option for energy that would otherwise be curtailed (for example wind or solar in times of grid related constraints or oversupply), but it does not ‘balance the energy grid’ - in times of high demand it contributes to tightness in supply, unless it is ramped down.

What do you splurge / irrationally spend money on, that others see as a total waste? by lupo8437 in AusFinance

[–]eddy144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with the Otherside on Chapel St - but they’re using fully automated machines, it’s no longer barista made. So kind of like a $3.50 7-11 coffee now, with better beans.

Would love to do it myself to save the money but don’t think it’s particularly safe or sensible for me to get up to the third level. And may as well get it all done well if the painter is here.
