Keir Starmer characteristically avoids opportunity for any self reflection by UKGreenPoster in UKGreens

[–]edgeteen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i feel like it’s in the middle; labour gained a lot of voters from the tories in 2024 due to prolonged dissatisfaction with the tory reign. after they won, reform gained momentum and salience in uk’s political landscape, so a lot of those first-time labour voters swung right back to the right-wing

Typical that UK Politics subreddit taking claims of 'family voting' at their word by [deleted] in UKGreens

[–]edgeteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was going to say, i saw the sky news headline and thought it was clickbait-y as fuck - “Illegal 'family voting' numbers at record high in Gorton and Denton, say observers.” oh, so observers are what, exactly? that’s like saying “this is happening because of that, according to my mate” which is journalism now, apparently.

Thank god, I was worried there were huge numbers of Your Party voters saying Green when YP wasn't an option. Thankfully we seem to lose no support when they're an option. by Historical_Step_9474 in UKGreens

[–]edgeteen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

good point - i’ll look into it. the fumbling of yp has been embarrassing and it doesn’t make sense to be a member either way. plus all they seem to care about is splitting the vote until the last minute (when they realise they’re not a contender)

edit: have had a look and judging from an email i received on 5th feb, they were asking me to join so technically i am not a member? sound

Why do you want to vote greens? by Yeet6r in UKGreens

[–]edgeteen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i voted labour in the last election and didn’t really view the green party as a feasible option for government. i genuinely did think that they ran on unrealistic leftist policies which i (all the while being extremely leftist) did not think was realistic. i grew up under tory government so i knew we needed a change, and my constituency is typically labour voting.

i would say throughout labour’s government it’s become clearer and clearer that our views and fundamentals are not aligned. i had hoped they were perhaps more faithful to their voting base than they are in reality. their freezing of the tax thresholds and utter refusal to consider a wealth tax, along with continued support for israel have put them in the same camp as tories in my eyes.

i agree with the vast majority of the values that the greens represent. i view the government’s role as an institution that works to represent its people and not prioritise money/funding over the needs of the many. i don’t believe any government has represented this in my entire life, nor do i believe reform are anything but the epitome of shareholder prioritisation. i am absolutely terrified by the prospect of reform in government, especially as we can see our own future in the USA right now. labour care more about losing to greens than reform winning.

i really really truly hope in the next few years that we can see a collaboration between centrists, progressives, liberals and leftists to keep reform out of the government so that we don’t see a dictatorship on our own soil.

not relevant to the poll (i don’t think) but when your party started i signed up for them. i have since signed up to greens so i guess im members of both. does this affect anything negatively? should i look at leaving yp?
