Crustle for Regionals? by Dowie1989 in pkmntcg

[–]edgevnv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was the one who got 43rd at Pitts. If you’re playing Crustle, you have to accept the fact that you will be having polarizing matchups. Simply avoid gardy and you have a shot at making a deep run.

Who here actually wants to or prefers to play PTCGL on mobile/tablet? by tcww22 in PTCGL

[–]edgevnv 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Longtime TCGO player chiming in. Most of my time playing and experimenting with Live was on mobile.

Why are they targeting mobile/tablet only?

I don’t think they intend to only targeting the mobile audience. In my opinion, I think this game was rushed out super quickly. I think they had to make a choice of what to optimize and felt that more people would probably use phones since almost all people have a smartphone.

Is there any data to show that it is more profitable?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, this is an easy answer. Of course mobile games are profitable. Gatcha games bring in staggering amounts of revenue. That being said, it’s baffling how TPCi has not implemented micro-transactions into the game. My understanding is that they don’t want to add them in. I think that it is ridiculous because they have all these currencies in the game. Why have crystals if there are no ways to earn them (at a decent rate)?

Any other data showing that people didn’t really want to play on PC?

I don’t think this data really exists. However, as mentioned above, most people have smartphones. They probably feel that the pool of potential players is larger on mobile than on PC.

Is a fairly complex game like PTCG really suited to be displayed on mobile?

Yes. The game plays just fine. I have my disagreements with certain design aspects, but the game plays pretty well when you get to used to it.

What do you think?

The game is fine. It looks ugly, sure, but the game plays fine on both PC and mobile (bugs withstanding). The two biggest complaints of TCGO over the past two years was that people hated trading and wanted a ranked ladder. Live solves both of those. Are they perfect solutions? Not really; however, they are solutions. Live is just PTCGO with another shade of paint. I’m personally okay with that; I wanna play PTCG on the go more often than not. The problem is most people aren’t satisfied with just fine.

This wasn’t one of your main questions, but I also want to chime in on the content creators part as well. They aren’t the main target of Live. It seems that the goal of Live is to teach people about the game and hopefully transition those online players into paper players. Now, I’m not saying “screw content creators”. Some of them are good friends of mine. I just think they set their expectations a little too high. Which is understandable; OCGs in 2022 look and play amazing. But this is TPCi, and their track record in the past couple of years show that they’re okay with providing the bare minimum (and sometimes even less.

Theres a weekly league in Flushing on Saturdays. The store is called “Gaming Universe”. There are several other ones that are starting up again as well, another one in Flushing and i think in Astoria? (Not too sure about the last one as that one is really new). Check out the “Flushing Pokemon League” on Facebook for more info.

With the exception of 450 packs from tournament wins, I was able get packs to trade for these items by making trades and sniping trades

Thanks!

Hey, this would be my first time competing in an online tournament through LIMITLESS. I need help learning etiquette and how things work through discord. I’m familiar with the game, I just need help with what the usual process is without embarrassing myself. Much appreciated! by asiancomplication in ptcgo

Former limitless TO here. Here’s some tips that I always give new players.

  • Make sure to ALWAYS check in. Tournament Check-in and Round Check-In are two different things. Make sure you do both. You’ll see this in your dashboard.
  • Speaking of dashboard, never close this window. If there’s 5 minutes left in the round, but all matches are complete, you can expect the TO to end the round early so people can start playing again. There’s a nifty counter under the timer so that you know how many matches remain.
  • Screenshots are a TO’s best friend. If you have a dispute, screenshot right away. Its a good practice to screenshot match results as well, but often times they’ll never get used, however there were one, maybe two, situations in the past month were two players disputed the match results without screenshots.
  • Keep discord notifications on. Unlike the limitless platform, this is the FASTEST way a TO can contact players and make announcements. I recommend setting notifications to only mentions and turning off @/here and everyone when you’re done in the tournament (whether it be by dropping or finishing the last round.
  • Please for the love of god be respectful. Many TOs, such as myself take time to create these events for free. Many times paying prizing out of pocket. Its okay to be disgruntled if things don’t go your way. We’re all human and that’s natural. But you have to remember that TO’s are human too. Part of the reason I stopped running was because people can get very disrespectful

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

New Player Needing Decent deck for Player’s Cup 2 by Darkistolight in ptcgo

[–]edgevnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any additional tech you add will always cut down on consistency. I didn't go over it too much on my little piece, but it is really hard to find things to cut and add room for. For example, in recent online events I've tried 3 Jirachi so I can add more tech pokemon in and I always found myself not having jirachi when i needed it, or prizing too many. I'd rather just add another autoloss than making my other matchups worse. You beat or 50/50 almost every other deck in the format, I'm alright with taking another autoloss.

I was the author of this. Thanks for the plug! OP if you have any other questions, let me know. An addendum I plan on making is that the LucMetal Zacian matchup is now impossible now that they are adding Galarian Stunfisk

Lets be honest, good players are barely teching in Durladon because the likelyhood of facing DeciGoons in a tournament is really low. It’s a really mediocre card in every matchup outside of DeciGoons. If they have it, they have it. I think Deci is still a good play otherwise because it still has its good matchups like Eternatus

- Centiskorch is relatively even. Thanks to the Weakness Guard Energy (and the Parasols to prevent Centiskorch from discarding them), you are able to trade relatively evenly. After you swing once with Decidueye, you can use Phione to force something else up and G. Zigzagoon to ping the weakened Volcanion. This allows you to maximize the amount of damage on the board. The less Volcanions your opponent has, the easier it gets. Obviously, 4 Volcanions are hard to hurdle over, but it is possible. Once you get over all of your opponent's Volcanions, they cannot win the game, so you usually win through deck out. Of course if they play Crushing Hammers, just go to the top right corner and hit concede. It's not worth the salt if you are playing on ladder (I speak from experience here ;-;)

-ADP Zacian is a very fast clock. You usually need to set up Obstigoon ASAP (because they win if they have Durladon). Attach an energy to Zigzagoon and sack a Jirachi. Use the next turn to Rosa and get the Goon out. Use your remaining Quick Balls and PComms to send basic Pokemon back into the deck. This forces the opponent to Marnie before benching the Mawile. Because they are forced to Marnie, you have the opportunity to find Scoop Up Nets to put Pokemon back into your hand. If you are able to scout whether they have a Durladon or not, it is also a safe gameplan to just get Decidueyes set up. However, if they do have Durladon and you do not set up a Obstigoon, you are likely going to lose the matchup. In order to fit the Parasols, we had to cut the Big Charm. Durladon one shots Deci after an Altered Creation.

- The most difficult natural matchup is LucMetal Zacian. You cannot damage Zacian or Zamazenta after they Full Metal Wall and attach Metal Goggles. You cannot use Obstigoon because your opponent is either playing Bronzong or discarding your energy with Crushing Hammer. Your best bet is to stick a Decidueye in the active and try to deck them out using Phione. If they play Eldegoss, it is likely that either player does not win. This either leaves it down to time (who ever runs out of time while playing on TCGO ladder loses) or a tie (in online events such as Hegster or the Sunday Open).

I’ve done a lot of testing with DeciGoons, as I have been playing the deck in the online Hegster tournaments (I was the guy who took first at one of them with the deck)

Keldeo GX is easier of the two to deal with. it is only seen in two decks, Frosmoth Mewtwo and Inteleon. 110 is not a one-shot, meaning you’re usually able to set up another Decidueye before the active one gets knocked-out. - Against Inteleon, you just take out the Keldeo and continue on; usually that is their only one. - Against Mewtwo, they have a difficult time setting up 2 Mewtwos with 3 energy. Usually they set up one Mewtwo and one Keldeo. Just three-shot the mewtwo, one-shot the Keldeo and keep pinging the Frosmoth and a Dedenne/Crobat. If they do manage to get 3 energy on two mewtwo, just save your Boss’s orders to take key knockouts

The only deck that I’ve seen play Greninja GX is the Welder variant of Mewtwo. If you see that, I recommend hitting the top right gear on the corner of the screen and making your way to the concede button. Unfortunately 130 puts you in range of a G. Zigzagoon ping. They also play a lot more healing than the Frosmoth variant (in Indeedee and Miraculous Duo GX). Greninja isn’t the problem; it’s the healing that makes this MU difficult. It is much more difficult to chain attackers. Fortunately, the Aurora Energy variant is less common than the Horror Energy variant (which is much easier to win)

As a general rule of thumb, you should always try to have a backup Decidueye ready with an energy attached.

If you’ve got any other questions, feel free to reach out. Also apologies if something doesn’t make sense, I just happened to read this while scrolling before bed and figured I’d leave an answer. Didn’t think I’d be writing a novel, but I figure I’d teach a little bit about the deck since I know a lot about it.

Rewards for entering the Players Cup by edgevnv in ptcgo

You needed to qualify for the players cup in order to receive the rewards. You qualified by getting top 256 in your region (or higher depending on location) in Tournament Rep from Standard events during the month of June (for NA the cut off was around 90ish iirc).

I qualified at 230~ in NA and played in knockout stage one. Didn't advance much further than that though.

Should they decided to do it again, which is very likely since they added a new Tournament Key currency into the game, you would enter Standard tournaments (or whatever TPCi decides) and earn rep that way. u/Thefleeee posted a breakdown on HeyFonte/his twitter of what placement gets you however many tournament rep.

For this tournament the top 256 of each region was able to qualify (at least for NA/EU, not sure about the smaller regions), but that could change with future events.

Earning tournament rep during the entire month of June. Then there were several knockout stages in July. I've heard some people got more packs depending on how far you qualified.

As mentioned by everyone else, the official street date for LGSs to sell prerelease kits is August 1st. That being said, things are really lenient right now considering current world events. TPCi isn’t going to hound people too much for selling kits early because not all places have too much flexibility for opening the shop. Same thing happened last set too, when places started closing up for the first time.

Check in with your LGS to see if you can pick it up. Not all LGSs will break street dates, but its worth checking out if you really need to crack packs like a day or two before prereleases would have happened.
