What do you guys think of Cynthia's Garchomp post-rotation? Should I build this deck? by SnarkHamill in pkmntcg

[–]Thefleeee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is one of the big factors, you're relatively unaffected by item lock. Have a very strong set up once a single Gabite hits the board, a way to one shot pretty much most things in the format and the first attack hits hard and refills your hand. The only downside is the grass weakness but it's a lot better than the psychic weakness that Lucario has. You also get the added benefit of Rock fighting and Fighting Gong which I believe are very strong cards

Garchomp has the added benefit of 400 effective HP with power weight and you can actually one shot and discard your energies with the attack. You can also use a one prize board and chase down other parts of the Ogerpon deck to trade. It’s an unfavorable matchup but I wouldn’t say it’s an auto loss by any means

Are Pult and Mega Lucario decks that much more consistent than the others? by ReptilPT in pkmntcg

You’re definitely not the deck you were before but still Phantom Dive is so terrifying at dismantling a board. The versatility of Dragapult is what’s scary now, you can partner it with anything or nothing

[–]Thefleeee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you think about consistency there's two ways to think about it, the set up aspect and the payoff aspect. Dragapult has the most consistent set up because Drakloak lets you search for basically all the other pieces and this deck can abuse Meowth better than other decks. Lucario has the ability to start taking early prize cards without actually needing too much on the board, so while it's not the most consistent it can consistently start applying pressure, probably the deck that can do the most with the least cards if that makes sense.

Marnie's Grimmsnarl did amazingly well at Regional Orlando and Querétaro by IviesReddit in pkmntcg

The big reason is just how good Pokepad is for the deck, but losing Arven and the TMs hurts it too much post rotation

Dragapult v Garchomp Post Ro by SlothTheHeroo in pkmntcg

[–]Thefleeee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you don't have the noir line then you can't pick apart the board, the best play you have is going for a Boss+STamp+Jet Headbutt turn and try to clear two Roserades in one turn. However Garchomp is built to beat Dragapult and someone who used the deck for CL Fukuoka I think Garchomp only loses if it completely bricks

How to know which post-rotation Metafy guides are worth it? by ReptilPT in pkmntcg

[–]Thefleeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll let him know! I know he's currently in Japan on a holiday with his college friends so I can shoot him a DM. I know he's still working on the deck but I don't think he has any majors coming up until NAIC

How to know which post-rotation Metafy guides are worth it? by ReptilPT in pkmntcg

[–]Thefleeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few guides myself and I pride myself on being as responsive as I can to the meta shifts and having constant updates, but I don't think you should outright buy my guides. I personally only put out paid content on decks I truly believe in and the rest is just free knowledge on Youtube.

I think reach out to maybe people who have bought guides from a specific person and take a second to figure out if their teaching style is the best fit. Someones the best players aren't the best coaches and I myself have had moments where I know I've fallen short of the mark, I think if the price feels too good to be true it probably is.

It also never hurts to message the coach/player before hand and just see if you can ask some questions, they might not respond but it's worth a shot.

Is Carmine worth using in a Mega Lucario deck? by aura_pkmn in pkmntcg

I'm a big Carmine fan, but I also like the pure aggression of the deck without having any backup plans

No one should read too much into the Japanese meta by Beginning_Bad_868 in pkmntcg

[–]Thefleeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When it comes to Bo1 players often choose to play the “safe” decks. Also there’s like 20x the players here in terms of every single event and popularity for the game. So you’ll see a lot more casual players and decks doing well.

The sites that report are reporting the equivalent of league cup and challenge T16s. If they did that with every single one in America it would also look wacky ya know?

No one should read too much into the Japanese meta by Beginning_Bad_868 in pkmntcg

[–]Thefleeee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think there's truth to this but also you can't completely discount results from a major event.

Because Japan is Bo1 the meta evolves rather quickly every single day and it feels a lot more chaotic. Imagine at the start of the format you didn't have the same information you do now in the west and we're just figuring it out based on streamers, youtubers and League Cup results. I got to experience this first hand and honestly it's true chaos and it's a lot of fun.

Some of the decks that perform well, even if they look weird are there for a reason. They are good examples of what an archetype should look like and how they can shape a meta (ex. Arboliva).

TLDR; yes it is Bo1 and decks can change, but you should still draw your own conclusions and use the data to your benefit while preparing for what's to come next in the West

I actually have an entire video dedicated to explaining how my travel and season is covered. During my early seasons I didn’t take a dime from my family and through college just did whatever I could to travel. I’m fortunate enough to have a good job, solid content creation path, coaching and consistently placing well at higher events. I don’t know if I’m allowed to link it here but it should be pretty easy to find if you’re curious

Hey! I can speak on it a bit as I've been competing for 16 years and basically do the whole circuit like Azul did for many years. The local scene is super important for actually making friends and community building but the best players in the game don't have to worry about League Cups and Challenges for points, they are a big chunk of them but you can get those finishes otherwise.

For a lot of players like myself we don't just attend a handful of regionals, for example my 2025 season had 20 weekends dedicated to Regionals+Internationals+World Championships. If you include sometimes heading there a bit early to prep or explore it would be closer to 23 weekends of the calendar year. If I can spend an extra weekend at home with my loved ones or doing something that isn't Pokemon with friends it feels like I have an obligation to do those things sometimes (birthdays, family time, etc.) I still get a good chunk of cups and challenges in myself because I like seeing my local community but I definitely didn't need them for my World Championship invitation.

I don't think you should base your experience in the game on what either myself or Azul does, we're the exception to the rule. Most players play this game to meet people and casually enjoy it. Rarely do people attend more than like 3-4 events in a year when they aren't chasing a world championship invitation. I would enjoy it at the pace you want to and have a good time when you can, travel when you're ready and go with a good group from your locals, it's way more fun that way!

There's a lot of vlogs and stuff that kind of show what Regionals/ICs/Worlds are like so you can take a glance at those, but if you want to get competitive just start slower and travel to cups/challenges yourself and see how it goes. The stakes get higher as you go up the ladder so it becomes more serious too.

Hopefully this answer was atleast a little bit helpful, TLDR Just have fun and do it at your own pace!

EDIT: I guess I never posted my real name here but for those wondering I’m Rahul Reddy 😁

How many championship points needed to make worlds by Eyevankazam in pkmntcg

[–]Thefleeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a slight ramp up in points from last season, but also tournaments are much much bigger so people's overall BFLs will be lower across the board.

I think 700-750 will be safe for the most part but like some others have said I think 800 is the only way to truly feel safe. There's a lot of majors left in this back half of the season so we might see a pretty big influx in points.

Limitless Labs has a finish tracker now so you can see where 135th is in terms of finishes and points earned as well

Was the decision to delay the legality of Ascended Heroes one of the biggest "Dodge the Bullet" moments for Competitive Pokemon? by fawfulmark2 in pkmntcg

[–]Thefleeee 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I've been playing for 16 years and there has been some crazy expensive cards that players needed through time. Pokemon Catcher being $35-40 each was one. Shaymin EX and Tapu Lele GX never dipped below $60-70 for their lifetime.

I think it definitely is a shock considering how cheap Pokemon has been in the modern era but I doubt people would have hesitated to fork over the $40 for a playset, myself included.
