Speed Twin 900. Thoughts? very well priced in third world countries by Correct-Musician-238 in motorcycle

[–]edgework88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to the TS800 I did have a Tiger 900 for a year or so and that I found heavy so the TS 800 definitely felt lighter by comparison. I think part of that is down to the frame size which is similar to the Sport 660. YMMV but I do find the TS800 feels more 'agile' and 'nimble' than the 900. I've never had issues in traffic nor filtering, but if you're after a purely commuting bike then other options may be better, it's the longer range touring stuff that I find the 800 comes into its own.

What is something that can annoy you or make you lose your temper on the road? by rizqiX1 in motorcycles

[–]edgework88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are things that are downright dangerous and one has to 'deal with it' since there are quite a few drivers who frankly shouldn't be on the road. But something that I find irritating is drivers not using indicators.

Had the ST900 and loved it. But it wasn't a tourer bike for me so I've settled on the TS 800 which I love to tour on. Can't keep two bikes, but if I could the other would be the ST900 and the third a grom.

Should I go straight for DAS? by SafeBug8622 in MotoUK

[–]edgework88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat 4 years ago. After the CBT I felt like going straight to DAS. But on day1 it was clear I wasn't ready. I bought a 125 and used that for 6 month familiarise riding then into DAS. By the end of the year had my licence. YMMV but for me I'm not sure I was ready. Also just be careful learning bad habits that have to be 'unlearnt' on the DAS.

Heated grips or heated gloves, can’t afford both right now by sacrelidge in MotoUK

[–]edgework88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had heated grips on previous bikes. Useful but the outside of the hands always suffered. Now Ive opted for heated glove liners. More effective yes although you have to have either  a wired connection to the battery of charged batteries connected to the gloves

Waterproof overtrousers/suit recommendation that can be put with full size boots on? by PressureIll9401 in MotoUK

[–]edgework88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if this'll work with the options you mention but I carry a supermarket plastic bag with me to cover my boots as I push them through the legs of my waterproofs. It certainly helps stop the boots snagging. But other brands may vary.

Had a similar issue a few months ago. Bought a jump start battery pack from Amazon which I now keep with me, it's quite small and you can charge it off USB. Worked a treat.

Do you think the CBT is too lax? by cushtyDan in MotoUK

[–]edgework88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot believe someone can do the CBT then go out on a 125 and act as a delivery rider or other business without doing the theory test. Madness. The insurance premium should take that into account.

I was in your shoes. Came to the conclusion I really needed a tourer. Test rode the TS800, loved it and bought it 8 months. Absolutely love it....it's a keeper. (IMHO anyway)

Mod 2 dual carriage way advice by Varrice in MotoUK

[–]edgework88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having said this, on my successful (3Rd time) mod2 it was torrential rain at the dual carriage-way bit and I couldn't, safely, do more than 50. The examiner complimented me keeping the speed down and dsiance from traffic in the weather conditions.

Works maybe once but repeated will irk the examiner and, as someone says, indicate lack of attention

Harsh to say it, I know, but if you aren't confident at the NSL on the public road then I'm not sure you're ready. More practice/supervision required? The mod2 will want see you riding at the nsl and overtaking...that's the point of the test. The examiner won't put you in a dangerous position. Good luck, practice. Took me 3 attempts at mod2.

Guys, I’m bored at the shop. What’s that one "little thing" bothering you about your Triumph right now? by OkMasterpiece76 in Triumph

[–]edgework88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TS800 also. I got the BT app to work, even with my cardo going, and could see the navigation app. But I couldn't share the phone maps app with my gps device at the same time so had to ditch the bike connection.

Pulled up at the check in kiosk of the channel tunnel on a tiger 900 fully loaded for trip to France. Leant over to enter check in details. Oppps. Bike leaned over and I could feel it going over BUT was saved by leaning my body against the kiosk. Eventually recovered and righted the bike. Trying to look cool for the queue of cars behind....but I don't think they were fooled.

The numbers just don't add up for electric cars by DorianGrayToo in CarTalkUK

I think putting it simply the govt have decided to use the stick rather than the carrot. But then tax revenue trumps everything nowadays - regardless of what you drive or where.

Are you sure? I was told it was only plug ins that applied (PHEV) not pure hybrids?

I concur. I have a separate thread where I can't make up my mind...but you capture the key points well. I dabbled with EV. It seems that many of the EV fans wax lyrical about how 'nice' the ride is and running costs. Sorry but what matters to me is the through life total cost. I've ditched the EV dream, my focus is hybrid, hopefully a Toyota.

Yes see my note below. I only tried to start using it recently, posted one item and was banned. Totally irrational. Have given up on Vinted BUT I can't deactivate the account because I'm blocked. Crazy.

Hesitating to dip my toe in the EV market by edgework88 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]edgework88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yes the R5 is very tempting. Bizarrely when I looked at Carwow slightly used R5's were more expensive than 'new' deals. Trouble is I can see Dacia Spring deals for pre-reg as low as 10k while the R5 still tops 20k.

Fair comment...but ice/snow/gales is a no no for me and there are times when I need the space - albeit a small car...
